Actually listening to these guys takes a lot of the shine off. They are obviously educated and whatnot, but for whatever reason they are a lot more imposing (if that's the word) as names that you encounter on a regular basis within the Logos milieu than they are as actual people. I guess presence in the of Biblical conversation and personal presence are not necessarily equivalent. These guys aren't exactly pushovers, but I don't find them intimidating in the same way that a Christopher Hitchens might be considered intimidating, although I admit I was sad to see him depart so soon...I was hoping to have a go at him some day.
Congrats on the four digits. Now you only have 9000 more to go to start catching up with Rosie, MJ, Dave, and alabama. Be sure to eat your Wheaties. [:)]

Hmmm...interesting. Why do you find having an intimidating disposition important?
Oh, and if you do the math - 9 x 5 years = 45 years! I wonder if these forums will still be around by then. [:^)]

That isn't what I'm saying, though I won't shy away from the idea. Intimidation is a concept displayed throughout the Scriptures by both the enemies and allies of YHWH, not to mention in HUGE part by YHWH Himself. By calling upon the idea of intimidation, I simply mean that those who exercise boldness (a commanded trait for YHWH's disciples but found in His adversaries also) backed with effectiveness (the ability to accomplish one's purpose) create an aura of intimidation. This is really just a sensory input that says "don't take this one lightly". In many cases, people who oppose those who are boldly effective will experience "defeat", whatever that may entail. I disagree, obviously, with Christopher Hitchens's atheistic position, but I saw him eat religious folk's lunch on many occasions, whether Christian, Muslim, etc.
Elijah and Elisha were both intimidating figures. Goliath obviously was for all of Israel save one. Intimidation is just a fact of life, a result of factors that are present in certain individuals. It doesn't mean the person who has intimidating qualities is necessarily a boorish bully, though sometimes that is the case. But if someone does present that quality, it is simply (un)common sense to tread carefully. Intimidation, as a phenomemon, speaks "to & about" those on either side of that phenomenon. It is not simply about fear, whether great or small, but also about caution, prudence, wisdom, etc., when engaging someone who has the trait.

Probably not.
Congrats Josh! I tried to post something yesterday when all I had was my iPhone but I couldn't manage to make it work. Not sure why but it wouldn't let me see what I was typing.
