USER Confusion: Why do I have to create the parallel resources only to have a pre-existent one appea

Edited: Several Encyclicals with English/Latin pairs do not show parallel resources:

I set the series name (my own standard) and create a collection with parallel resource set ... wait for everything to propogate ... and open the new parallel resources icon to discover that there is an automatic collection with one more resource than mine. Why do I have to create a collection to make the pre-existent parallel set show?

Wanting to toggle between Latin and English I discovered that the two versions were not tied together as a series and did not appear as parallel resources:

Being in a Series (usually a serial association as with commentary sets) has nothing to do with Parallel resources (which are supposed to have the same reference) and your image doesn't show a reference to match for parallel purposes (being the title page).

All Parallel References should show if the resource displays a valid reference. The resources will be of the same type, and they are not restricted by your collections (hence the extra book). You usually define collections with "Show in parallel resources" to restrict the output or include resources of mixed type e.g. Bible Notes and Bible Commentary.

True, I was trying to show that there is no parallel icon before I created the collection. They do, in fact, share their only indexes.

So the fact that I have a collection for searching that includes just the Latin resources suppresses the "automatic" parallel resources even though I didn't set parallel resources in it?

I mentioned the series aspect because my collection rule otherwise would not make sense if others tried to use it to create parallel resources. It may be that trying to be helpful was more confusing than helpful.[:S]

In general, the icon will appear with the message "No parallel resources". I don't know why there is no icon in this case, but it isn't crucial to the discussion.

The "automatic" All parallel resources list is only suppressed by the absence of other resources (of the same type) matching the reference.

It is one way to provide a simple rule, but it is a misuse propagated by Logos themselves! title:"Aeterna Dei Sapientia" would avoid the need to create anything.

As that the icon appears when you move to a place where there is a reference the creation of the collection doesn't prove anything i.e the icon would have appeared without the collection. Is not that the case? Alternatively, does it appear for the Title Page only when you create the collection?

You don't. You just have to scroll past the title page into the main text, just like with every other resource that works with parallel resources.

The collection has nothing to do with it. You had no icon because you were on the title page. You got an icon because you moved to the part of the resource that actually contains the Papal Encyclicals datatype/index.

(That said, I did have problems with the Latin file. I had to scroll, close it, and open it again, before I could get the icon to appear. That shouldn't have happened.)

In general, the icon will appear with the message "No parallel resources".

Not that I can remember seeing. If you open to a part of a resource that has no index other than Page, there is no icon at all, until you move into a part that does have an index. Before it 'sees' a datatype, Logos has no clue that it ought to display an icon.

Perhaps there's a parity issue? (For you did open to the title page didn't you? Not just scroll or click your way there after opening to some place else?)

(And sorry for essentially saying the same thing above that you had already said, but sometimes it helps to have someone else say it in different words.)

Okay I've got it. Some of the encyclicals show the parallel resources icon when initially opened to the title page. Others do not but do show it when you scroll down and retain it when you scroll back up to the title page.

I can find resources that have David's "no parallel resources" when I scroll down but haven't found one that shows it on the title page upon opening.
