No Joke! Pretend to Spend Money...Get a Free Book!

I just got a good laugh from this CP. I'm not sure if this is deliberate or not, but this thing is still languishing at about the 65% level. Since the whole point of this give-away is to introduce newbies to Community Pricing, it's possible that this is being held back artificially in order to give more folks a chance to get in on the action, which is fair enough. Not sure if that's true, but given the amount of time it's taking for this piddly little book to climb the chart, I would hope something else is going on besides sheer disinterest.

Of course, the more the merrier, so it can take it's time. Still, it's kinda humorous that it comes off looking like Logos can't give a book away. Stick out tongue

I think this is an excellent introduction to CP for newbies. It prepares them for the realities when they come to bid £3.50 on the Princeton Theological Library...

Why Logos isnt getting wise and offering (every book of The Bible) commentary sets at huge discounts is beyond me too.

They could get a lot of money for the volume of sales which would make up for the discounts.

I don't think Bob has a problem with that doing that, since the only reason we even have a reason to discuss such a concept is because he initiated the idea with bundle pricing well over a decade ago. Commoditizing Biblical resources (which I have advocated on a number of occasions) is an idea which has merit because of the unique confluence of circumstances that come together in what Logos software is by design. Because of digital searching and hyperlinking, the market for Biblical study materials that was once the province of seminaries, libraries, and large churches has been democritized so that folks like us have a reason to buy digital resources so we can leverage our study capabilities in ways that were both impossible and unfathomable just 25 years ago. Bob's legacy isn't merely what Logos can do on your screen though. In many ways just as important is the sea-change in thinking he has been able to instigate in the "religious matter" publishing world. If Logos didn't exist, the idea of offering bundles of hundreds of hard copy titles at the same discounts we get in Logos bundles wouldn't even be able to drum up so much as a yawn. Logos turns that snoozer into an exciting and incredibly useful tool that can produce amazing study results for practically anyone.

It's the publishers who are the hold-outs in regard to what you would like to see. Bob and Logos have done wonders in getting them to come as far as they have. Look at the BW3 CP...it is the perfect example. Absent Bob's post to the forum giving us the "behind the scenes" details, there is ZERO chance that course would have closed below $75 in the most optimistic scenario. We may see it actually close around $35...thanks to Bob. I don't know if you've heard this or not, but he has said on more than one occasion that it is immaterial to him if he sells 1 book for $1000 or a 1000 books for $1...but he recognizes that more people benefit under the second scenario. It was that thinking that led to him introducing the CP program years ago. That's what he set up for us with the BW3 course and we all will benefit as a result. I have my share of Logos disappointments, but I also am a firm believer in assigning praise when it is due, and even more so, of not assigning blame when it isn't appropriate. Bob (and those around him) deserves mighty praise from every Logos user for what he has been able to bring to pass. His personal philosophy is one of promoting as much access to written material as possible, and he fully understands that one of the fundamental components of that concept is high-value pricing. On this point, he should receive hearty commendation from every one of us.
