The community price page offers other great resources. Now that the forum has so many members, I am sure if forum members took a peak or understood what community pricing is all about, they would flock to the page and place their bids. The more bidders we have, the lower the price goes for everyone! And if when it reaches the pre pub stage you no longer are interested, you can delete your order and pay nothing.

I pre-ordered at 30--higher than I expect to pay, but I will be more than pleased to get it for that price. I would not pay that price for print. Having the ability to search through nearly 5,000 pages will be an enormous benefit--if i happen to remember a specific illustration but don't know where it is, like the time he prayed--as the kids were sitting down to eat with nothing in front of them--and the milkman broke down in front, giving them all his milk, and the baker had been convicted the night before to bake all night and give to them--thus supplying the children with breakfast when they had none. . . . doing a search for "milk" would probably bring up the story.

Logos used to provide a suggested bid price. That used to make supporting community price bids easier because the price was often so inexpensive, it was an easy decision. Now, I have to stop and give more thought to how much I'd might pay. That's time consuming if you are unfamilar with the resource.

What do you recommend for a bid price?

If you are unfamiliar with community pricing it is usually reserved for public domain type books. It is kind of like a pre-pre-pub offer. We tell Logos what price we'd be willing to pay and once they get enough interest they put it into pre-pub and production. But the community pricers get the better deal. Logos explains how it works in more detail if you need it.

Barnes was, I think, one of the initial offerings available through Community Pricing. When it was first released many of the then regulars identified it as too soft and not worth the price. I disagreed then and disagree now. I have found it to be helpful. And if I can get it for $30, the current high bid, the price cannot be beat.

Don't forget to look at the Eerdman's Wesleyan Bible Commentary. Currently on PrePub, it was a gold mine in seminary whatever your theological persuasion.

The cost for Logos to publish this product will be very high. Not enough people have been willing to bid that high. Most bids seem to be in the $30 range. At that level we would need abut 2.5 times the number who have placed a bid. I bid $50, and it would take 4 times the number who have bid at that level.

Perhaps with the increased traffic on the forums enough new people will become interested in Community Pricing. I have gotten some really good deals through this program, but other titles have languished there.

Pre-pubs have a price set by the developer. In community pricing, the price is determined by the amount of interest generated. The prices are usually much lower than the pre-pub amount, often just $3-$4 for a resource..

It is explained on the community pricing page if you want to review it. What I remember from it--I read it months ago--is that this is more advantageous for public domain works, things with no copyright restrictions, etc. A look at the type of resources on C-P confirms that. HOW it gets on there, I don't know. Probably a project that they deem worthwhile, which I am sure could be spurred on by our requests.

I have read a little biography on him with my girls and we ALL loved it. An amazing story of a rebellious partying German young man who encounters some believers at a Bible study (he was there for a chick) who prayed "as if someone was really in the room listening." Long story short: he dedicates himself to God, has several dreams dashed/redirected and ends up running an orphanage. What he is known for best is his complete reliance upon prayer. He never sent fundraising letters, and God provided again and again and again. He said even after that it was not easy to live in faith, but it was nevertheless exciting to see what God would do next (Piper quotes that in his book Desiring God).

Having all that on Logos, searchable, clippable, etc etc would be great for any Bible student, preacher looking for illustrations, disciple wanting to grow in faith, new Christian seeing how God transformed a total "worldly man" into (over time) a solid saint.

I don't recall the particulars, but it seemed like there was a Community Pricing title in the last year that gaithered enough interest after 1 week that wound up going for only $3. It was much higher when it went to pre-pub pricing.

I'll have to look at my orders to see what that title was.

For me, Barnes gets right to the point and usually I can find quick answers to questions I have about a paticular verse. The OT Commentary is not nearly as good but the NT is very good IMHO.

Check out The Commentary of Zacharias Ursinus on the Heidelberg Catechism. The Heidelberg Catechism is a wonderful summery of the Christian Faith and this commentary by the principle author should be a very valuable addition to our libraries. It only needs a few more bids.

Thanks BTW for your bid on the Heidelberg Commentary! I have always bid the "suggested" bid, which in this case is $90. One of the things I have noticed over the years with Community Pricing is that once a work reaches its goal, during that last week of biding a flood of bids come in and the price drops significantly. What this tells me is that there are a lot of people who are sitting of the sidelines waiting to see what is happening. It is beyond me why they don't bid earlier, but they don't. If we could just get more people to bid above the curve, in this case more than $30, perhaps some of these fence sitters will decide to jump in. There is really no danger in biding high, you are always guaranteed the loses price and if the final price is more than you want to pay, you can cancel your order. My guess is that if every one who has placed a bid on Barnes Notes would increase it to $90 the collection would cross the 100% line and a flood of new bids would come that last week and we would all end up paying something like $30. I've been waiting for The Heidleburg commentary, Barnes' notes and the Muller collection for ages too. It would be nice to see these cross the line.

It is a shame that the Muller doesn't include "Answers to prayer", although I assume the content from this book is mostly covered in the other books anyway.
