Restoration Movement foiled again!

With the new packages, I suspected that Logos would have updated their denomination data ... as they have. But by my rough estimate College Press/Standard Publishing should have gotten the Restoration Movement well onto the chart.

I am not sure of the purpose of this discussion
For me one of the excellent features of Logos is that it is not denominational/sectarian/confessional. It is for all those interested in the Bible.
Thus all of us are evangelical, interested in the good news. Before I bought Verbum I was assured it was not divisive. I would make a plea that we do not stress denominational perceived differences.
for all of you are one in Christ Jesus (NRSV, Gal 3:28b).

Noel - I think she just wants to see a particular group that is under-represented in terms of Logos offerings.
Further once added she wants to see them properly tagged in the store

It is for those interested in: (here goes)
Presbyterian, Catholic, Baptist, Seventh-Day Adventist, Wesleyan-Methodist, Lutheran, Pentecostal-Charismatic, Anglican, Eastern Orthodox, and whatever tradition you want to study from. It is unreasonable to think any singular perspective will suffice for all users.

unless your baptist, we believe we have the market cornered on what the bible says and think everyone should simply believe as we do
(/joking)
Super Tramp is right though. As broad of a community as is served, we all have our favorites that we want to see well represented in our logos libraries. I think that is ok, and can be accomplished without being divisive.L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

When you have spent (far too much) time on the forums, you will know the following about me:
- I am Catholic with a strong bent towards the East and as such usually present as ACELO (Anglican-Catholic-Eastern Orthodox-Lutheran-Oriental Orthodox) with more than a tad of Judaism.
- I champion the cause of any group I see as under-represented in Logos resources.
- I have a low tolerance for bad logic or verbal abuse.
- I have for several years periodically put out a chart of the resources divided by denomination as Logos counts them on the product page.
There have been several pushes to get more Restoration Movement materials into Logos not as an abstract label but with concrete suggested titles. Since Logos had consolidated some groups to correspond more closely with their packages, some new groups appeared on the chart i.e. their count was sufficient to put them in the top 20. I was in a "smarty pants" way, complaining that the Campbellites who have considerably more resources available did not appear because Logos has not yet recognized them as a group tag.
I apologize for not considering how the post might appear to those unfamiliar with the background. And, yes, I was raised in the Campbellite tradition, have a Lutheran pastor for a daughter-in-law, a niece who is the wife of a United Church of Canada chaplain, and Jewish cousins.

Without intending to be divisive, I would personally like to see Logos pay a bit more attention to the Restoration Movement. Adding a group tag as M.J. suggests would be a great step. Another good step might be to put some older publications from the Movement on Community Pricing, and to gather some of the works that are already in Logos into one or more collections. I personally don't think there's enough material to support a Restoration Movement base package any time soon, but it might help Logos market to folks from that tradition if one were ultimately made available.

I have greatly appreciated your efforts in these respects. I can see how Noel and others might have misunderstood the thread title. The last thing I want to see is sectarian criticism and discord. I do hope Logos gets around to a Restoration Movement base package. Otherwise, we will never get the College Press Bible Study Textbook Series.

Plus, I'd think by now the 'we' aren't all evangelical (however defined) nor interested in the good news (the end of the world in the time to Jesus). Just illustrating that we're well into theological territory.
Even our pastor would never suggest the sheep visit his good buddy evangelical pastors' churches unless just to help out (but not too much).

If someone has suggestions on how we might begin tagging Restoration resources properly, please email me. I will certainly take a look at it as soon as I can.

Gabe, I don't quickly see your Logos email but Standard Publishing and College Publication aka College Press both publish only Restorationist material.

This is a great discussion. Thanks to all for the respectful, thoughtful and expert views expressed, with scholarship and at times humo(u)r. I benefit very much from Logos, and appreciate its resources and the support of participants.
I read “It is unreasonable to think any singular perspective will suffice for all users.” But Logos does not have a singular perspective. It is schplarly and represent the fullness of the Bible. I see a list of those interested, but non-Christians and those without a faith could benefit from it, as the Bible is the basis of Western civilization.
The discussion here reminds me of the Campbell-Mac Gregor feud, long ago and almost forgotten. Also Collegeville more than College Press interests me.
I would say to Logos, keep doing what you are doing, it is brilliant.

John ... if you ask the pastors, they'll assure you that it's not a 'grass' issue, and definitely not in Colorado. Church hoppers!! That's one of the worst accusations you can throw at a fellow sheeper. It's the modern version of the no-forgiveness exception rule in the NT.
If I understand the Mormons, you have to attend your ward congregation. No busing to another ward. I'm not sure about Catholics. And it's always interesting when a new sheep decides to join our flock. We're immensely pleased at all the great reasons our flock was selected (well, of course!).
Noel, I know you're trying hard, but quite a number of forum members aren't thrilled with 'Western Civilization'. They live (one for a few months each year) between Parthia and the great Pacific rift. One of the big mysteries of the NT is the good apostle being well aware there were 'people' beyond the 'cosmos' and the end was at hand. He had no qualms.

I'm for the "Restoration Movement" and would like to see base package geared towards that theological view. I own several Silver packages of the various denominations out there and would like to complete my library with a Restoration Movement package. College Press and Standard Publishing would be the first to tag as "Restoration Movement" resources. These would be others: Cogdill Foundation Publications, Florida College Bookstore, Florida College Press and others.

A few others that can be added to the list of Restoration Movement publishers whose material is already available on Logos include:
- Cogdill Foundation Publications
- Christianity Magazine (176 issues)
- Florida College Bookstore
- Florida College Press

Thank you MJ.

I found it interesting living and working in Japan, because it was a country with a civilization which was different from our Western Judeo-Christian Graeco/Roman one. But modern Japan shares our Western Civilization, as do China and India.
St Paul saw the world as the Roman Empire. Spain was at its extremity. It was an enclosed world. It did not even reach out to a wild cold country in the middle of the northern sea, Hibernia.
One must admit that our civilization is a Western one. The great universities, Oxford, Cambridge, Paris, Harvard etc. were all initially Christian. The ideas shaping our lives originated in this culture.
But these ideas are wandering away from Logos.

One thing that does not work well in Japan is Americanized Christianity. My parents were missionaries to Japan and I grew up there.
Denise and MJ both have their own unique understandings of the Far East.

I wouldn't limit the problem to 'the east'. Even north of us a bare 60 miles, Christian missionaries are unable to separate 'Western Civilization' from the gospel. Native americans can easily 'see through' their arguments ... 'white mans religion'.
Conversion is simply westernization; little more. Plus the missionaries literally get nervous, if the gospel isn't presented with the trappings of western civilization, ignoring that early Christianity was quite similar to native beliefs (demons as the source of illness, etc).
I clearly remember the day, when I appeared at one of the missionary HQs wanting to purchase a Navajo Bible. The suspicion was palpable.

I would also suggest adding the books by Everett Ferguson and, though this probably goes without saying, the Encyclopedia of the Stone-Campbell Movement.

Also, while I don't think Logos has much from them, two other publishing houses associated with the Restoration Movement are:
- Gospel Advocate
- 21st Century Christian

This is great to take out of context[;)] But the answer is that our parish often has a parish council with no members living within the parish boundaries. In the past parish-hopping was discouraged much as the Orthodox discourage bishop-hopping.

Denise,
Don’t tell anyone, but I am on the parish council of http://www.newtownparkparish.com/ , and I do not live within the parish boundaries, but I used to.
Being free to attend different parishes (parish-hopping) is healthy, keeps people on their toes,

It also allows for parishes to "specialize" in accommodating different types of disabilities/differences. For example, we had a pastor who was particularly good at handling young people who were developmentally delayed which was a real draw across the city.
