Installation issues: L6 onto Win 7 (64 bit) on a PC

Did the download and authorized Logos to install the "update". Very soon an error message said I needed Windows 7 SP1. Installation crashed at that point and now I can no longer access my Logos at all.

I have Win 7 and it is as uptodate as can be. SP 1 came out how many years ago? So how do I resolve the issue. This appears to be a specific communication error between L6 and Win 7.

I have downloaded logossetup.exe several times today in case it was corrupt when I first downloaded it (a problem I have encountered in the past). No solution.

Can anyone help?

Yep, I have them. I see 4 that were dated around the time of the install. Which one would you like to look at?

I see Logos prerequisites installation is failing.

Also the .NET framework did not install (upgrade). Logos uses .NET 4.5.2

You have a couple of options as I see it. You may want to directly download the .NET installer from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42643

Install that and then retry the installation.

It won't hurt you, since you certainly need it one way or the other.

If the install still fails, resubmit your logs and consider the following step a "shot in the dark".

Go into Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features. Locate "Logos prerequisites", right click and repair.

Then try to repeat the installation.

Unfortunately, you might be best served calling Microsoft support, if the .NET installer isn't working - it's something we require for Logos, but the installer itself is completely provided by Microsoft. We don't modify the package at all, and if it's not installing I'm not sure how much we can do. [:(]

I didn't notice this the last time, but Windows is reporting service pack 0 to the program (Line 6 of the setuplog); but logos is set to require SP 2 (line 7.)

I'm a bit confused myself about the way windows reports its version numbers but Windows reports Windows 7 as 6.1 (line 6 - it's complicated and I barely get it but that's what it means).

I'm not sure why you're reporting SP0 and it wants SP2, it must have something to do with the way Windows' naming conventions have convoluted version reporting.

Can you double check according to this page, that SP 1 is really installed?

Thanks. Contacting MS is a waste of time, in 20 years I have never got them to even answer the phone! But thanks for the heads up as it set me in the right direction.

I uninstalled .NET installer and then reinstalled it. Problem solved without having to speak to those imaginary people at MS. See also my comments to TC Black which follow.

Thanks for your patient help yesterday. I uninstalled the .NET installer and then reinstalled it. Both you and Dylan suggested that between the lines.

Then downloaded the Win 7 SP1 (which they seem to think is Win 6 something) and installed it. Then did the installation on L6 and it worked with no problems.

So moral of the story: the first error message was correct, I needed SP1. Second lesson, my NET installer had problems and needed to be fixed. Third lesson: Windows Update updates what it feels like and ignore the support packs, you have to do them manually. So despite doing Windows Updates for 3 years since SP1 came out, it didn't do that update, and a human had to do it for them. Call me MS Human! Lesson 4: Logos is a great program, that is why I have stuck with you since ver 1.6. Pity I can't say the same for MS, I use as little of their stuff as possible.
