Scrolling On A Laptop--Once and For All!

The Microsoft problem is a bug/issue in the .NET/WPF that Logos uses. When this gets patched by Microsoft the touchpad scrolling is expected to work.

If there is a workaround, I haven't read it. I doubt one is possible right now. Regarding Microsoft's timetable, I remember reading 2nd quarter 2010 on a thread somewhere. However, I consider that date to be hearsay since I haven't spent the time to find a Microsoft source with that projection.

Probably not once & for all, because we're all still learning. As I understand it, those with Synaptic touchpads are definitely affected. Others' mileage may vary.

That fix isn't expected before March 2010; I'm affected, too, as my laptop has a Synaptics touchpad). There's no current patch available.

Here's Bradley's response, in another thread. http://community.logos.com/forums/p/4281/34292.aspx#34292 . There's nothing we'll have to do, as Logos will have to re-release L4 with the new .net framework fixes--if they're available on scheduled in March.

I don't like the situation either, as it TREMENDOUSLY reduces the "usability" of L4 for those of us affected.

Bill, I'm using a Synaptic touchpad on my Toshiba (PS/2 Port Touchpad)...and it works great...it even works in the forums.

I've got a variation on this "No Scrolling" theme.  I have a Fujitsu LifeBoiok T series with Windows 7.  It is a Tablet PC.  Neither the Synaptics touch pad works to scroll or the Scroll Sensor that is used in the Tablet mode.  Please note that they do work with Libronix 3, but not with Logos 4.

There is a fix guys.  I had the same problem when I started using L4.  The way to make scrolling work is to right click your L4 icon, click properities, choose the "compatability" tab, and check the "Run as Administrator" checkbox.  This enabled me to scroll and made L4 run a bit faster.  I know some have said not to do this but I've been running this way for over a week with no issues except better performance.  Also, if you haven't disabled tablet input services, you can get another performance boost by doing this.  The only drawback to running as administrator is that each time I start L4, I have to click "yes" on the UAC box that pops up.  But it's a small price to pay for the scrolling and performance enhancements.

Thanks for the input... I saw it when someone posted this earlier but hadn't tried it since I kept seeing reports that others still had scrolling problems. Long ago, I turned off UAC (I can't stand its intrusiveness & after 24 years in the IS business I don't want or need Microsoft's help in that arena), And I'm already running as an administrator. For me, those are non-issues. As a result, the "run as administrator" box is always grayed out. The only thing left was to try running in compatibility mode. I picked XP SP2 (from Vista 64 SP2). Still no joy on scrolling. Nor is there any boost in performance.

I am running L4.0a on a Dell Inspiron 630m laptop (1.73Ghz, 2GB RAM, 80GB HDD, WinXP SP3). It has a Synaptics Touchpad and the scrolling is working fine when I use the right edge. I have not installed any patches to make this work but I do keep my machine up-to-date with Microsoft updates.

That's interesting that it will work for you using XP but not others.  Hmmmm!!!!

Wow!  Well, at least you've confirmed my finding.  So, it seams for Vista and Windows 7, running in compatibility does fix the scroll.  In Windows 7, I don't have to choose Windows XP compatibility, I just run as administrator.  Another interesting thing is that scolling doesn't work in Windows XP but for you using Vista, it scrolls in Windows XP compatiblity.  Again . . . Hmmm!!!

Yes, I hope you are right.  I would like to be able to untick the "run as administrator" just for not having to confirm to the UAC every single time I launch L4 that I really do want to do what I just told my computer to do.  What nonsense.  Anyway, as I've stated before, it is worth the scrolling ability and the improved performance I got by doing it.  I'm going to be ordering my new i7 parts next Monday and I should get the stuff Wednesday and have it up and running by Thursday evening.  I'm looking forward to seeing if it still sufferes the same problems as my laptop.  I have a pretty decent laptop.  It has a 2.2 GHz Turion 64 X2 with 3 Gigs of ram and 768 Megs of dedicated graphics ram.  I'm not nearly maxing out the processor or Ram with L4, but I'm still wondering if an i7 desktop will run L4 better.
