Cited By Tool and Collections Problem.

Hi,

I am only now starting to use the Cited By Tool. I find it incredibly helpful, but with lots of collections I find it a drag to use. I have to manually select and/or deselect every single collection when using the tool. If you have only a few collections this is not a problem. But with so many collections it becomes a pain. Is it possible to add a Select/Deselect All option to this? It would really help a lot.

Or it would even be better if you could somehow tag the collections you want available in the Cited By Tool, instead of having all your collections shown there.

If you have only a few collections this is not a problem.

Before the move to 64 bit architecture the Cited By was unusable if it had "many" collections--if one could even open it to be edited [unless you had a ultra fast up-to-date computer or perhaps a SSD HD]

--developers did not create this for the number of collections many of us use.

Fortunately, the latest 64 bit can access much more ram, and so Cited By is finally usable.

I am not complaining about the speed or usability of the tool. It is really fast now. My problem is when I want to change the collection I use in the Cite By Tool. Say I have 10 collections selected for a reason and I want to change them to 5 completely different collections. The problem is that ALL my collections are shown under the Cite By Tool. I must hunt down the ten collections through all 100+ collections I have and remove the Check Mark manually for each one. I must also look out for the 5 new ones I want to add a check to them. A Deselect All function would be of great help. That way I can quickly clear all collections and only concentrate on those I want to add.

Sarel, a number of us have asked for this. Logos should NOT automatically add new collections and they should allow us to save the tool in different configurations in some way. In L4 (and I think in the early versions of L5) you could drag a set-up Cited By tool to the Favorites Menu and then regardless of how you changed an open Cited By tool after that if you clicked on the saved one in Favorites it opened with the setting it had when you put it there. That functionality was lost.

I must hunt down the ten collections

My only other suggestion is to go right down to the very bottom of that very long list. Usually the newly added and [sadly, also] newly "selected" ones are down there. [I do agree with your concerns, but except for Mark's helpful comment, I am not sure what else could be done?]
