I'm trying to figure why the journals master bundle has not gained a lot of traction yet... Is everyone holding out for the next version with more etc?
My reasoning is very simple - I spent my money on upgrades ....
I looked at it very seriously, but in my view, it lacks academic rigour. The material is not nearly as catholic as it might be. The target market for Logos is US-evangelical, and that market is served well by the bundle packages currently available, but the options are not great for anybody else.
In the Anglican forum, we mentioned that two very desirable journals, Anglican Theological Review and Journal of Anglican Studies are both missing and are on the "most wanted" list. Were these to be added, I'd look again at the bundle.
Last week, I happened to want to read an article from the 1963 edition of the journal "New Testament Studies" (Cambridge, UK), but and was unable to find the journal in Logos. That's just an example off the top of my head, but others could probably provide similar examples of material that is relatively mainstream, but missing.
I very much hope Logos will figure out some way to bring an "educational establishment" status to the software to give users access to the journals that are usually available to large universities and seminaries. I've looked into joining several libraries as a graduate, but hardly any provide access to journals that are sufficiently theological.
My future purchases are being informed by how I have used the resources I already have.
The Library window helps provide that information. When I pause the mouse over a resource in Details View, I get a pop-up like this:
Interesting, I've placed a preorder because I figured that this may be the best price but there are plenty of other journals I'd be interested in.
In terms of a purchasing philosophy I know we do get dynamic pricing but there have been a few times recently when I think I paid more by purchasing early. Eg. Tom Wrights works became very much cheaper as part of a base package only a couple of months after I paid for them on preorder. I wonder if others are waiting for a more complete bundle? Does anyone have any incite into when more journals are coming or whether the best price comes via early purchases etc.
