How to Add Audio to Custom Word List for Flashcards App?

Alright, so I am trying to make a Vocabulary Word List for the Logos resource Student’s Vocabulary for Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic that can be used in the Logos flashcards app for iOS, and I want the sections in the word list to match the sections in the Logos resource. So I am making a custom lbxvl xml file, since I was not able to find any other way to import a large amount of words into word lists along with the sections. And then I am using the "Import Word Lists" command in Logos 6.

Well this is all working great so far. There's only one last piece of the puzzle now: audio. I notice there is a column for Audio in the Logos 6 software. Interestingly, I've noticed that if I make a word list from a hebrew text in logos, the audio icon shows up on the flashcards app for that word list, but if I import a custom word list, the audio doesn't seem to be working. When I look at the word list I make from a hebrew text, however, the audio column is still empty (or at least it appears to be), so I am a bit confused. Perhaps someone can help me?

Here's a look at what my custom word list xml (lbxvl) file looks like. I am using the column "display" for the hebrew lemma. Should the column be titled something else in order for the audio to work? With them under the column "display" in my xml file, it shows up under the column "Card Front" in Logos once it's imported. If I switch to using the column "word" in my xml instead of "display" then when I import it into Logos 6, it shows up under the column "Lemma" but then the app shows blank cards. Either way, there is no audio icon. So in essence, I would like to know how to get the audio to show up on the desktop. If I can do that, then I imagine it will sink to the flashcard app?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Here are some screenshots in the app.

As I've played around with it, I've noticed that when I use the "display" column in the xml (which imports as "Card Front" column in L6), the app looks like this:

When I use the "word" column in the xml (imports as "Lemma" column in L6) the Hebrew side of the cards go blank:

Notice that there is no audio icon either way. I thought at first that if I could get the Hebrew in the "Lemma" column in L6, then the audio would auto-recognize, but that doesn't seem to be the case, at least not according the the tests I've done.

    Timothy,

it seems we can't add audio to imported lists. What might work is to merge our own lists with complete, audio-containing Word Lists built in Logos. Have you seen my reply in your other thread: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/92378/703383.aspx#703383 - I shared the respective documents (Greek language, though)

    Hope this helps a bit

    Mick,

I appreciate your response. I did see your post in the other thread, but I also saw your note about how it doesn't work, so I didn't try it.

However, I just tried it and lo and behold... it doesn't work. The merge actually seemed to work decently, but there is still no audio.

Not only is there still no audio, but the merged list completely destroyed my sections! So now my new list is without audio AND without sections. Instead of gaining a column, I lost a column! What kind of merge is that? And importing sections is the whole reason I am doing a manual import of a custom list to begin with! This is starting to be a headache. I definitely agree with your comment I saw on your bug report that this feature is clearly half-baked. A lot of great ideas with it, but unfortunately poor implementation.

The only reason I have been able to get this far is because I have a computer science background. Most people would have no clue how to make a custom XML file from scratch with hebrew words in it. My point is that there should be another, much more simple way.

I think you hit the nail on the head in your bug report post when you said:

it would be worth looking at the Add from selected text / from clipboard to potentially allow adding of other columns

Yes, like section and audio! :)

Thanks again for your posts, I hope that Logos will listen to your recommendations and finish the implementation of this feature. It has so much potential, I am choosing to stay hopeful! :)

Ok maybe I spoke too soon. I just discovered something important after trying some more tests in L6.

If I open the custom list and merge it with the L6 generated list, then no audio.

If I open the L6 generated list and merge it with the custom list, on the other hand, then there's audio! Progress!

Except... the sections are now lost still either way.... which means I'm back at square one... well, almost.
