March madness sales are sorely lacking!

Dear Logos,

I'm grateful for you and also realize that I am not entitled to any discounts.

With that said, I feel a little misled with this sale. With other authors, many of their books are on sale but with this last round (50%) only 5 resources total? What about Moo's Galatians, etc?

I'm guessing this is a publisher issue but seems off.

I think Faithlife should include ahead of time what resources for each author would be subject to being discounted. This might impact ones voting if we knew ahead of time how deep or shallow the list of discounted resources would be for each author.

It's like wining a day with an author and finding out that you can't discuss a bunch of topics that are off limits because of 'rules' that weren't spelled out completely. You might of decided to invest time with a different author if you had full disclosure.

It's like wining a day with an author and finding out that you can't discuss a bunch of topics that are off limits because of 'rules' that weren't spelled out completely. You might of decided to invest time with a different author if you had full disclosure.

I would make the educated guess that the books which are on sale depend on the level. So there are books they will offer at 30% off, but not 75% off, so they will not disclose in advance.

They should also take this into consideration in deciding on which authors to include in the promotion. I would prefer that they simply not include any authors who do not have a significant number of works they can discount.

Great! Then, please, some of us would love to see

1. MM organised by "categories" such that the four initial divisions could be, for example, a contest between Catholic, Anglican/Lutheran/Methodist, Orthodox and Reformed/Evangelical/Pentecostal. Even if a Reformed/Evangelical/Pentecostal person ended up winning the contest, we'd see greater discounts on others authors because they'd be competing against somebody within their own category (at least until the semi-finals were reached).

2. A greater diversity of authors, such that anybody with over, say 10 publications in Logos might be allowed to feature, as opposed to just doing a sweep of the "most searched" names from the previous year. I'd like to see more women and non-white folk featured, but accept that there would need to be more female and non-white authors added to Logos in the first place, so this may take some time.

3. An advanced list of which publications from each author would be available for discount.

4. A discount on sets and not individual books because in some cases, the MM discount on individual books has just made only a dollar or two difference from buy the non-discounted sets.

5. A new "May Madness" contest to be organised not by denomination, but by historical setting, such that there'd be four divisions, something like Patristics, Medieval, (Counter)-Reformation and Modern. Again, even if a modern author were to win the contest, the patristic authors would stand a greater chance of reaching the semi-finals before begining knocked out.

6. A March Madness contest especially designed for Verbum owners eg. www.verbummarchmadness.com such that the authors would all be people that Verbum owners would consider purchasing.

I see this every year as a sales gimmick and try not to let it bother me if some of the resources I think I might want or need do not get discounted. I do hope to find something in the final round. The whole process and sale has been mysterious to me and I found in many "races" I was not even given an option to vote I think. I just chuckled and moved on. I read a MOO book for one of my classes and appreciated his scholarship. Carson is someone I am coming to appreciate more and more for his preaching style and effective communicator of The Word.

Blessings everyone. Every perfect gift comes from above....Thank God that we are deemed worthy to receive anything. Logos gives us some free books and if i find time to read them - I am sure they will be a blessing to me and I will rejoice.

For those who keep suggesting that the winner from the previous year be disqualified, you are forgetting two very vital things.

First, new users. If Faithlife was a static universe with no new purchasers, over time people would get all the deals they wanted and there would be no need to discount those authors. You may have had a chance to purchase Carson at 75% before, but how many others like myself, a new user, have not. (For context, I am not a Carson "groupie." I have never read anything he wrote.)

Second, you are asking Faithlife to not provide a discount on one or two of their most profitable authors. That just doesn't make good business sense. In the end, this is all about revenue, and a business would be foolish to throw out a winning strategy just because a few vocal forum members are not satisfied.

Real March Madness in more than one way ... I would have purchased nothing if the sale consisted of set and bundles ... while I was willing to buy about 1 book per round when there was a variety of inexpensive options.

Very good point! I have come to the conclusion that MM is really for new users. As the discounts get higher the books I don't already own get fewer and fewer. This last round I already owned all the Moo and Morse books. There are a few Carson and Packer books I don't own, but who knows if they will be included. Is this something to complain about? Hardly! God as blessed me with these books. Why should I complain that I already own them?

Again, we are not entitled to discounts, but for those who were strategically voting, I think we misread since there was a lack of consistency.

Finally, perhaps a Marchmadness with commentary sets would be exciting as others have mentioned.
