Update Cannot Open V4

I would have put this on the ng but... I now cannot open Logos4, it simply crashes (It did go through a 3 stage indexing after it downloaded the update this morning).

I get the dialog box "An update is ready to be installed...." If I chose yes it closes V4 and gives me this message; "The installation of Logos Bible Software 4 did not succeed." If I chose NO than it starts opening to the home page and then crashes. This time I get the Microsoft Error message: "Logos bible software 4 has stopped working".

I have to say, for me, Logos V4 is very unstable with freezes, crashes, etc.

Having the same problem:

1. Start Logos

2. Answer "yes" to the message about updating

3. Get a failure message and Logos closes

Note: If I say "no" to the update Logos question, then Logos starts and downloads updates and indexes the updates - I cannot say yes to the "you want to update question" without failure.

Just when I drank the coolaid and thought it was safe to go in the Logos 4 pool; it is broke and it can't get up, back to Logos 3 [:(]

Ok - I deleted all the Logos4.msi files I could find and tried to run this script (hopefully it is the right one): http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe

1. The "An Update is ready to be installed" pop up happens everytime I start Logos4; I cannot do the update, evertime I click "Yes" the buttom pops up again (endless loop - Yes - popup - yes -popup ...)

2. If I run "update now" in Logos4, it reports that no updates are available.

There are a few that are left on the ng but not all questions are replied to there anymore. The cure to this problem is to down load the V4 setup program and run it, this will fix the problem. In Ken Avery's Reply the web address is included.

The V4 updates are nice, but it is so slow, even using it to just to read my daily Bible Reading it is slow. It gets to the point like it used to be in Windows 3.x, go get you a cup of coffee and talk to someone and then it will have completed its task. It seems especially slow in notes, the Bible reading file, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to sit down and do what I do everyday; debug SW applications.

Unfortunatly, when I am not developing SW, I do a Bible Study with Chuch Missler, co-lead a prophacy bible study group, lead a gosple Bible study group for new believers and then top it off with one more life group.

I guess I can keep having a conversation with myself in the hopes that a fix comes out in the futrue that will successfully update Logos4.

Hi Ken, sorry I couldn't get back to you right away, try closing L4 and erasing your entire Install folder in your Logos4 folder and then re-open Logos4 and see if an update comes or type update now. That seems to have helped other users. If that doesn't work I will start a case on this.

Edit: Can you confirm that you are administrator of the computer? Did you originally install L4 with that user?

Thanks for the response; I tried what you recommended and it acted a little different:

The update dialog box poped up and asked if I wanted update; if I say yes, endless loop (update yes, fail, update yes, fail ... ) so I said no and Logos 4 started up.

I see, this sounds a lot like an issue I've seen previously. It could have something to do with BITS, perhaps a firewall, whatever it is it is preventing the download. Which version are you using right now? Have you run a system restore any time recently?

I don't think the download is a problem because the Logos4.mis is landing - the install directry is also being poulated.

Note: I am the system administrator and I do not remeber setting any such policies!

Okay so you have the older 4.0 service release, it is probably a good idea to get 4.0a SR-2 you may use the direct link: http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe

Let me know how it goes.

Edit: Also try setting the program to run as administrator in the program properties, same with the shortcut icon after installing 4.0aSR-2

Ken, just a quick update to let you know, I got it working under Windows 2008 R2 Standard. I had to log into the machine with a domain admin account - a lot admin account MAY have worked, didn't try - and then right-click on the setup, select run as administrator, OK to the security prompt and everything installed like it should.
