Optimal setting for Parallels?

I just installed Parallels 5 and downloaded L4. But quite frankly I'm pretty disappointed in the performance of L4 so far. I'm using a MacBook Pro with 4 GB RAM. What should I have the settings set to on parallels to get the best performance out of L4? It;s the only program I have running on the Windows side. Using XP.

You didn't mention which MacBook Pro, so it is a bit harder to help, for instance how many cores have you assigned it. There is an auto tune function that can help. I have run it on both Parallels and Fusion (which I am using now) with 2 Gb and 2 cores and I have been quite satisfied with the performance.

I´m running Logos 4 under parallels myself with good results using a MacBook Pro with just 2GB RAM. Hope this helps...

Ok, I assume you are assigning two cores to it as well. Mine is only slightly faster than yours and I found the performance under Parallels 5 quite acceptable. Not what I am willing to accept from the native mac application, but still very usable.

So, first I would check out the extensive thread that was referenced in the other post, then if you still feel the performance is unacceptable, start listing what parts of the performance, how long they are taking and see if the rest of us are in the same ball park. I think you will find that people will fall over themselves here to help you.

One thing I have noticed with using L4 in Parallels is that it takes a while for everything to load and settle in Logos. I open the program and open a layout with a passage guide, exegetical guide etc and let them populate. Once they populate once the program is pretty quick. There are many tricks to setting things up to help out. I suggest the wiki and watching some of the user made videos. The default layout if you enter a verse from the homepage, while demonstrating much of what L4 can do, is the slowest way to study using the software. Go check things out, make some changes and I think you will find working in Parallels is satisfactory.

I was preparing to ask a question when I noticed the "etc" in your post. I guess that means that the PG & EG are not the only windows you open.

Hi Jack,

I have videos that go over my layouts in much detail linked from the Wiki. Here is a screen shot of my standard expository study layout for the NT. The point is that once L4 settles in using Parallels the performance is much better, but it takes some patience. Then you do not really need to wait again for the settling in unless you close Parallels. Opening L4 is quicker and it settles in pretty fast unless you close parallels. i think there is some caching that gets deleted when Parallels is closed, because I do not have as significant of settling in issues on my PC desktop. Yes, I do not allow them to automatically download.. I can index when I want to rather than when the download comes down the pike... But thanks for the reminder.[:D]

All said, I really look forward to the Mac version getting completed and not even have to deal with the windows side.

Seems to be working much better today. The update yesterday seemed to help. Even Sermoncentral.com is working for me now.
