Ipad Mini vs Ipad

I have an older iPad and looking to get a new one. I am looking at getting a mini. I typically use it for reading Logos books as well as in worship and preaching. Does anyone have an experience using a mini? If so what memory size do you suggest?

The Mini is a great bit of kit... but there is no better way of evaluating its usefulness to you than actually spending some time reading from it.

The apple store, and indulgent friend or some other way of testing it out should be explored.

The mini is also the diary that you have with you - so tends to get used, the camera you have with you so tends to get used, the note book that you have with you so tends to get used, the library and bible that you have with you so tends to get used.

Go for the most memory that you can afford.

I have both. I use the older iPad for preaching, but then my eyes aren't as young as they used to be. Also the size is just somehow better for me. The mini is fine for reading books, I prefer it, although my wife usually commandeers it for the same purpose. Very technically it is hers, since it was a Christmas present.

Memory (I presume you mean storage space) depends on what all you want to use your iPad for. For Logos, I would just download the stuff you intend to actually use, and not the full kit-and-kaboodle. If you aren't going to load it down with dozens of movies and thousands of songs, then any smaller size will suffice. If you are like me, max it our, cuz you never know.

I used an iPad for several years. Now I am using an iPad Mini. My observations are:

1) The iPad Mini is definitely better for reading—it fits in your hand just right.

2) I like it better for preaching. I pick it up to read a quote or the Bible and then set it back down on the Pulpit—it feels more like it's a Bible to me (I got a leather case for it). Of course, I had to resize my manuscript to fit and be readable on the Mini.

3) It fits in my laptop sleeve nicely—so I usually take both laptop and Mini with me where ever I go.

4) Can't type on the Mini—but I have a Macbook Pro now, so that's not a big issue. When I had an iMac, I needed to be able to type on the iPad because that is what I took with me everywhere.

5) As far as memory size, I am fine with 16 GB. I don't have games or pictures on my Mini—just Logos, Kindle, and PDF Expert. I also don't download every book to the Mini—just the ones I use (again, I have a Macbook Pro with me for more in-depth study, so I don't need all my resources on the Mini).

If you have a laptop, I'd go Mini. If you have a desktop, and you want to type on the go, the regular iPad would be better.

I love my mini 2, much more than my iPad 3 (the first Retina model, which I replaced with the mini).

My suggestion is, buy a mini 2 or wait for the new models in September. You're paying 100$+ for nothing more than the fingerprint sensor and color options with the mini 3, since they didn't change the internal components at all.

Since I got an older model (which again, doesn't really differ from the "new" model) bumping up to 32Gb was pretty cheap.

Can't type on the Mini

As you know 'speed typing is quite an art on the iPad. Text entry and alterations can be done by using the on-board keyboard- but it is best kept for short sessions.

Don't forget though, that with a bit of practice, the dictation facilities on all Mac models are quite good and they get better with individual use.

As well as 64Gb of storage, an option no longer available for the Mini 2.
