Replace with Passage MAC - Still waiting
Still waiting for the repair / fix for replace with passage on Mac.
This feature will allow you to highlight a passage in Pages / activate the service menu replace with passage will paste in that passage. When you activate it now, it will bring Logos to the forefront then get stuck for about 60-90 seconds.
It has been a long time and every Logos beta we get I hope and pray for a fix.

Thank you everyone for the services files; they all look correct. If you can run the following from Terminal and attach the resulting logos.txt file from your desktop, it would be appreciated?
mdfind "kMDItemCFBundleIdentifier == 'com.logos.Logos' || kMDItemCFBundleIdentifier == 'com.faithlife.LogosLauncher'" > ~/Desktop/logos.txt

Calling Martin Potter ....... Any news with our reports?
It looks like there is an issue with the Copy Bible Verses service that is unrelated to your issue that will be fixed in an future update.
Unfortunately, I do not have an update on your issue at this time. The dump of the services and the find command show what I would expect and the Replace with Passage service should be working given that information, but based on the logs, for some reason it is still attempting to launch something other than the application.

Just a question and I don't know if this has anything to do with it. Why is the Logos folder in the /library/applicationsupport still say Logos 4?
On Mac it will always be Logos4. On Windows this was switch to just Logos with Logos 5 if you did not have a copy of Logos 4 previously installed, but we do not have an installer on Mac, which is what sets the install location.

Martin didn't answer this question directly, but the answer is long and technical. They <should> have simply gone with "Logos" in the beginning, but by the time the issue was caught, it was too late... so we will be stuck with a folder named "Logos 4" for the foreseeable future. Not really a big issue, but kinda annoying. [:P]

Lewis! You had me happy for a moment but alas, it did not work for me. Thank you though!
Can you please enable logging, start Logos, select some text in your favorite word processor (or TextEdit) and try the "Replace with Passage" service. After it fails, can you please collect your logs with the Logging Utility and attach them? I would like to verify that your issue is the same as the logs statements that were posted earlier.

Martin I followed your directions and here is the file. Now the logging utility kept telling me I needed to restart logos. I did the terminal command and I did get "1" telling me it was enabled. So I hope this worked.

Yes, you did it correctly; the restart message will show if Logos is running when you run the Logging Utility since you must restart if you change the enabled setting and it can't currently query what the value was when Logos was started.
Looking at your logs, it appears that you are running the Beta of 10.11 (10.11.1) which as Steve noted earlier seems to have problems with services. In your Console log, you will notice it is filled with tons of these internal service exceptions:
2015-10-12 17:09:49 Rinos-MacBook SandboxedServiceRunner[675] <Error>: assertion failed: 15B30a: libxpc.dylib + 23599 [3E09C275-A33B-357A-B0AB-A2DDF88EC9D5]: 0x13
Hopefully they will fix what they broke with the 10.11.1 Betas before it goes stable, or if it was an intentional change, they will document what changes need to be made to our service advertising.

The only reason I put the bet of 10.11 on was to see if it fixed the issue. I have never had success with anything past Logos 6.4 and Mac 10.11.
I was responding to the logs you had posted, rather than leaving it with no response. Unfortunately, having installed the 10.11.1 beta, I can no longer tell why you were having the issue previously since it does not work at all and fills your logs with the exceptions that I posted.

O MY! I think its working!! Martin, can you update us. When I first invoked it, it asked for word services.
Yes, we made changes to the services in Beta 4 to try to work around Apple's service lookup and our application. It appears that although the service is registered with our application and everything looks correct, instead of connecting to the service of the running application or the one listed in the services dump that you provided it appear that Apple is simply looking for the first application it finds with the name Logos. Unfortunately, it also appears that they find the launcher application inside our application first before the actual application. This is also why completely removing Logos and installing Verbum causes the "Replace with Passage" service to work as it was incorrectly advertising its service port with a name other than Verbum.
I updated to the latest build of 10.11.1 (GM) and then Logos beta.4. Now the service reads different. Does yours say, (logos)?
The service labels were also changed for Beta 4 to read "Replace with Passage (Logos/Verbum)" and "Open Copy Bible Verses (Logos/Verbum)".

SO - how do I install the new Beta ?
Rino - A space needed to be added after pasting a hyperlink: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/52967.aspx
Make sure to read the warnings. Beta testing isn't intended to let users gain early access to cool new features, or even to fix bugs for them. The purpose is to test the application. Sometimes things go wrong. Really wrong. If you only have one machine and need your installation for work, it is advised that you DON'T participate in beta. Make sure to read all the warnings. If you have time, inclination, and would like to help make the app better, please join the beta! [:)]
Also: you should make sure to change channels back to stable once the testing round is over unless you intend to continue beta testing. Some users (including myself) will go back to stable and wait for several rounds of betas before rejoining. Later builds are not guaranteed to be more stable (sometimes they aren't!), but most of the time it is safer.

Hugh,
I am just curious of what format capabilities is better in Logos? I think Accordance is much better in that. It matches destination formatting and you can tell it how to paste (i.e.. paragraph, verse by verse)
I wish we could have morphed it all into one. Logos was a gift to me. Accordance is what I used for the longest time. They are both amazing - but I really needed Logos to work on the computer I have it on.
By the way, the beta 4 is really stable - just saying.

Hugh,
Accordance will allow you to change the formatting in the preferences under Citation. The system services that Accordance used prior version 11 was done by Joe Weaks - a pastor/programmer hobbiest. It was a great package because you could tell every service to used a different key command. So F7 could have been ESV, F8 could be NIV. It was great. I have not figured out how to do that in Logos with the service Replace With Passage (Logos).
Accordance 11 now uses "get verses" which is invoked by option-command-A. A little window will appear on top of Pages or whatever you use. You put in your passage and then hit enter. You can change versions in that little window by command - or command +. The other thing that it does great is that it will match your destination format. I use Helvetica Neue 11pt. So there is no reformatting. Logos pastes things in Helvetica 12pt. So I alway have to reformat the paste.
The reason I have wanted the one in Logos to work is I like the way it puts in the scripture superscript number on each verse. Plus an individual laid out the $3k for my package as a gift. I did not need it but there are things that Logos does that is great - so I use both. I needed the paste in Logos it to work. I like highlighting the passage typed in my document, then hitting a key command and having the reference pasted right in.
I thought that this feature people would scream about. So when it wasn’t working I was surprised that 1) it took so long for it to be fixed and 2) that no one seemed to care. Anyway, I am SUPER THANKFUL for Martin (DID YOU HEAR ME MARTIN!) I just wish that a bit more time was invested in it.
I hope this helps, just let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Thanks. I am using the Insert Verses service with Accordance. Saves a step or two and works pretty much like Replace with Verses in Logos... Still looking to have it format with reference at the beginning and the text (with superscripted verse numbers) following. Putting the reference in puts the complete reference before each verse, even in paragraph format. Leaving the reference out means I have to reinsert the reference after doing the insert verse thing. Oh well.. you are right, would be nice to combine a working version of Logos with the one from Accordance.
The command to "replace with passage”, if Logos is closed, now opens Logos. Hope this will be fixed soon.
It has always done this and is the way services work. Since our application provides the service it must be running; if it is not, the OS starts the program so it can respond to the service request.

Hugh,
I know that Alabama was making comments about the beta, but I can tell you that this build has been solid for me. Everything is back working. You can download the beta link and then it will update when the final is released. Just saying my experience
