Has anyone done this study and can review it for me? Logos wants me to upgrade to Platinum, claiming it's really a must to do the study properly That would be in the area of just shy 2 grand for me - very hefty - I was, as an aside, very disappointed in the Faithlife Bible commentary. Heiser is academic editor of it. In referring to the Pentateuch they said it was "sometimes referred to as the Torah." Sometimes ???

"Pentateuch" ≠ "Torah"

The "five scrolls" are referred to as "Torah" (Law), but "Torah" isn't limited to the Pentateuch. Furthermore, since the Pentateuch is sometimes called the "Pentateuch," therefore by definition the Pentateuch can only sometimes be referred to as "Torah."

Some of the books in the required reading (only a section of the book is marked to read) are in Platinum or above, that is why they say that. I have the top level of every collection and still don't have a lot of the optional books. If there are not 2G+ worth of books in Platinum that you want don't buy it. Get a couple of good books on the Trinity and you will probably have all you really need.

I offer my opinion. Others may have a different take on the course.

Dr Heiser offers—what to me—are some unusual interpretations of some OT passages. He envisions a heavenly council of angels whom God has appointed over various nations while God Himself reigns over Israel. Although Heiser does not directly say this, he seems to view these angelic rulers as all from the evil group. I say this because he views them all as negligent in the execution of their duties. Not saying that he is wrong, just different. For me it would take a bit of extra study to verify his conclusions.

Half way through I become totally disgusted with the quizzes and exams and quit the course. I say this because the quizzes tended to measure my memory of obscure Scripture texts rather than my grasp of the course material. Someday, I may go back and finish, but for now I am enjoying NT-331 (Romans with Douglas Moo).

Out of curiosity, have you read or are you reading his "Unseen Realm"? He talks about these issues at pretty great length and then give even more research material at the companion website, http://www.moreunseenrealm.com/ (just in case you or others desire to pursue his reasons for the conclusions he comes to). I have personally been challenged by the sum of the evidence for his case.

I have the book, but have not yet taken time for an in-depth study. Right now, Dr Moo is challenging enough [:P]
