Solution to Note problem

I notice that Notes from Logos 3 cannot directly be loaded to Logos 4. I understand that work is underway to allow their import but retention of Logos 3 on one's hard disk may be required. I already uninstalled Logos 3 but kept the three Note files.

Thus, it appears that our Notes may not be transferrable to new Bibles in the future whether thay are from Logos or not. In addition to Logos 4 I maintain a Zondervan ePub Bible accessible to my Sony PRS 900 eReader. I also maintain a Zondervan Thin Page Large Print Bible. Unfortunately, only the latter print Bible has maintained my Notes in a manner that they can manually be re-entered in each computer Bible I purchase.

Now I've decided to maintain an Excel spreadsheet soley to keep a master copy of my Notes to be manually re-entered in each new Bible I purchase. The model is shown here:

I'm not sure how this is a solution for anyone else. Most of us just don't have the time to maintain a separate note database like this. However, if I were going to do it, I'd use OneNote. It's a much better way to organize and use notes than Excel, at least in my opinion. The real solution would be for the guys at Logos to develop a usable notes feature within L4. We need integration with the software we use. As much as I love OneNote (and I do), I would much rather have something usable from within the program itself.

A hearty amen here... the only reason I use OneNote is because I find the notes in Logos to be so lacking (even going back to the L3 days).

I agree. Logos should improve version 4 to allow export and import of Notes in a variety of formats possibly to include Excel, OneNote, Text, Word and many others. Otherwise, our Notes become trapped in the current version and must be developed or copied all over each time we upgrade.

However, for those of us, who maintain supplementary Bibles in addition to Logos, the Excel spreadsheet seems to be a viable work around.

In the end my print Bible has become my only source of old Notes to be entered in new Bibles whether they be software, Sony eReader ePub format and print. An Excel spreadsheet seems to be the most viable way to achieve this for me. I never used OneNote so I am not sure how it compares to Excel. I use Excel for all kinds of other supplementary uses so I naturally default to it.

I would also like to see Logos develop a file to fit into the Sony ePub format for their PRS 900 and other eReaders. When away from my PC, I always fall back on the Sony PRS 900 which is also 3G functional via the ATT Network.

I can confidently assure you that I am able to import my notes with the beta right now, and that is without L3 installed. What matters is that your notes remain in the logos dls folder under my documents/logos dls/annotations/

I can understand where you are coming from. And I agree that excel is a great program . . . but not so much for notes. If you have access to OneNote, I assure you that with just a little bit of learning about how it works, it'll be a better notekeeper for you.

I have a Kindle, so I understand what you mean about the Sony. I would much rather read on the Kindle than on my computer screen. After a while, the backlighting of a computer screen hurts the eyes. So I read on my Kindle when I can. I have discovered a workaround that allows me to read my Logos books on my Kindle. I'm not sure whether or not the Sony handles pdf file natively (I think it does), and some people take issue about explaining the process of converting from Logos to pdf because of licensing issues. Frankly, I find those arguments rediculous. I just can't see a big deal about my choice of which screen I want to view my material on. But, I digress.

I'm not sure whether or not the Sony handles pdf file natively (I think it does),

PDF and ePub files clash on the Sony PRS 900 so I had to delete all my PDF files there. It causes problems with their bookmarks - a bug yet to be resolved.

I'd like to see a Logos ePub file available. Right now I use a Zondervan NIV ePub Bible available at the Sony Reader Store.

That's too bad about the pdf files. I have the ESV for Kindle but have the capability of putting PDF files on there too. With Word's ability to save as a PDF and the Windows clipboard, I can pretty much get anything I want on my Kindle.
