March is coming, any info about doing March Madness this year? If so, will the format be the same as previous years?
I have no official info, just a thought: The format is based strictly on the basketball competition. It is unlikely to change.
Who do you think will win this year - Carson or Wright? [;)]
Maybe we could do publisher against publisher, or biblical book against biblical book (or perhaps that's slightly heretical in the eyes of some [:)] ) or anything else against anything else.
I understand FL's predicament on this: It's a great concept, but among Logos users, our opinions won't change much from year to year. In the NCAA basketball tournament, teams get new players every year so likely outcomes will change radically every March.
Mobile Ed MM would be nice or commentary sets or something...I'm ready for MM2016 👌👍
Some good suggestions, yet I also won't mind the same ol' same ol', Fiscal wisdom decrees that I stretch out purchases, meaning that there are some favorite author's works that I would still like to have. I'd also be really happy to see some NICNT/OT if there is any way. Maybe some BECNT and EBC.
I was just going to post this morning about MM. While it sounds ungrateful, I hope that Logos listens to us this year and implements changes based on the past several years of unsatisfied customers. I have found it harder and harder to get into it, and less and less interested.
My suggestions:
1. Remove last years winner, and possibly semi-finalists.
2. Categories to consider competing against each other: Classic Commentaries, Lifeworks of authors, commentary sets, journals,
3. Maybe do a vyrso bundle competition with the bundles used, similar to the 30 day sales.
4. Be realistic in match ups. Don't put Carson (if he is even in it) against Joe Nobody.
I'm sort of hoping that they stick to the same format. The C. S. Lewis collection came out last year and I'm guessing he would make the cut (for the first time since he his books weren't previously on Logos). I'm hoping he then makes it far and I can pick up the collection at a nice price. [:D]
If it is the same it would be nice to see different names and winners. Bruce Waltke has been in it but not made it very far...so if he advanced or others who bowed out early that would be ok.
I agree with the feeling of stale-ness to the sale that others express. It does seem no matter how the bracketing is done, when it is author-versus-author the outcome has become predictable.
I wouldn't mind just 64 well-chosen books. Of course I should be the one to get to chose which books those are. [:P]

I am very much in agreement here. That way we know what we are voting on. I like this very much.
I can't imagine a company removing a previous winner. Or for that matter, any popular author.
The repetitiveness suggests Logos' customer base is expanding sufficient to support the same offering repeatly. If the forum were the market, we'd be doomed.
And if indeed the bulk of the Logos customer-base are low spenders, then their most attractive next purchase will be ... popular authors.
I'd suspect for freshness, you'd need special competitions ... eg catholic authors maybe ... theology books maybe ... like that.
One idea could be some of the Classic Commentary Sets. Sometimes there were so many new resources coming out all at once..
So, to have another chance to get some of these sets at fantastic prices would be great. This seems to be a win-win scenario.

How true!
Maybe a separate contest for the "forum addicts league"
Is it just me, or did anyone else giggle at Everett saying:
against Joe Nobody.
and the very next post being by:
kinda made my afternoon
Count me as one that is tired of the same type of emphasis - resulting in largely the same results every year. Put me in the camp of "64 well chosen books" and find some way to tie into the NCAA Tournament to make it fun. The bottom line is sales based on good to great deals. Just get to the bottom line!
I agree!!
There was something last year where before the sale we were able to vote on the authors chosen and even suggest others to be included. Anyone remember that?
No I don't. But then that isn't too unusual for me these days.
I remember. 74 authors were originally chosen and we had the opportunity to help narrow the search down to 64, Here is the thread where it was introduced - https://community.logos.com/forums/p/98952/683235.aspx
Carson wins.
Or Wright 😐 Which is weird because all of us wish someone else won but when people vote only these two come out on top 😱
[:D]
It would be a nice change to have it on Biblical books
With 66 books in the canon plus apocryphal books it would be easy to combine a couple books and arrive at 64 the perfect number for March madness.

Last time they did a book MM was in 2011. I remembe Witherington's volume on Acts was the winner and got it for $13 bucks and change. Then the author MM started the next year. It has its ptos and cons, but they need more variety to make it more appealing.

Logos, any tidbits yet for 2016? Is it going to happen again this year? Thanks in advance [:P]
How about the March madness event including a competition between the Mobile Ed courses?
I like 🎶🎶🎶🎶
I would still prefer authors vs by books since there is more sale on books, but I would prefer to exclude previous winning authors and to add different authors who were not in MM before
This would enable other authors to have a more reasonable chance of getting the exposure of winning and having some of their works discounted.
However you set it up, I believe you should max out the number of books and authors that achieve a discount.
Your current setup is democratic. Eliminating previous winners, top 3'ers, etc., removes the opportunity to this year purchase their books, both for new customers as well as for older customers whose studies now bring these popular authors into the I-need-to-purchase orbit.
Important is being able to buy single volumes as needed. My wallet does not well afford large group purchases. Pinpoint and click makes it much happier.
A book-based March Madness would be VERY interesting!
Excluding winners would hurt and help. It would obviously lower interest slightly for new users. But I think it would help longer. I, for one, did not feel the need to buy up everything last year, in reasonable confidence I could get a similar deal this year. Like shutting down 15% discounts, you can create scarcity, with the added bonus of pleasing we addicts.
interesting suggestions all - but they reflect the interests of the 500 or 1000 of us that post on the forums regularly and buy everything offered by faithlife at every sale (eg as much as we are interested in or can afford). For the other 500k to 1m logos users they may be interested in 50% off spurgeon because they weren't here the last time he won, or carson, or wright, or whomever. In the end, FL will do what FL needs to to make the most money, whether it means the 500-1000 of us that post regularly are happy with it or not - and thats ok. I'm on a spending freeze anyway as long as the payment plan rules stand the way they are, or until my plan is paid off... So the next two MM don't really matter a hill of beans to me.
Almost March. ..waiting for those details...anything yet FL?
I like the idea of publisher against publisher.

Yes. By the way I've intuited the same 500-1000 count, do you have a more solid basis for arriving at it - just curious?
I would love to see it done by theologians within traditions. Have eight from the Anglican tradition go against each other to come up with the top Anglican. Have eight from the Reformed tradition go against each other to come up with the top Reformed. Have eight Baptists, Lutherans, Catholic, Orthodox, Wesleyan/Methodist, Charismatic, go head to head, etc. That way each tradition would have an author make the final eight. Then the different traditions would go head to head within the final eight. The only problem is that there are nine traditions. Perhaps, the smallest two could be joined in some way.
Have a list of books attached to each author, for in the past a certain favorite author might win out, but the books you're aiming for were not offered during the March Madness.

I can tell you this much...somehow, mysteriously "The Bible Knowledge Commentary" will win, because that was "the popular vote" -- like the time people voted to have their favorite resources go on sale for a Black Friday super sale they had some time ago 🤔😐😳😱😏😂😂😂😁😇
This made me smile.

Let's have the Logos version of the NIT. it'll include all the esoteric authors we on the forums might like. We can support two tournaments, no?
+1 [Y] for two March Madness tournaments.
Keep Smiling [:)]
A given year's Final Four are excluded for the next year's competition. A given year's finalists are excluded for the next two year's competitions. A given year's winner is excluded for the next three year's competitions. This would enable other authors to have a more reasonable chance of getting the exposure of winning and having some of their works discounted.
The new website is up...says coming soon....im excited [H]

Logos Blog says MM is live, but website is still Under Construction.
you can hit on the right Side to pass in Username and Passwort but it dit not work here with me?
@Sascha, My guess is that is for Logos employees to make corrections. In the past we've never had to sign in before. However, with the cheating in recent years, maybe this is new...
