There are three main parts to installation:
It can take several hours to download thousands of resources, and several more hours to index them. Is it possible that you just haven't waited long enough for steps 2 and 3 to complete?
In case the answer by Phil above is not the solution: Are you sure you used the exact same user-id (email address) as the one your library was connected with on your old machine?
If it is any encouragement - I have got my imac running beautifully ... but it took an overnight of letting it run to complete the resource indexing. I turned off the hard drive sleep - let the screen sleep only, so that it kept working - and viola - next am I was up and running.
Did the same trick last year on my macbook pro!
Thank you everyone for the help, however, I am not making much progress. I have had my iMac on constantly for 2 days and have made not progress in the last 24 hours. I still have over 6K to download. I do have a very slow internet running at ~ 3.5 Mbps. Is there anything else I can do?
I do not mind waiting as long as there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

If your old Mac is available, then resources can be scanned into new iMac. Logos wiki => https://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_Multiple_Macs#Copy_Logos_Resources_to_Mac_OS_X
