193,074 users have contributed ?

Forum Activity: 193,074 users have contributed to 104,099 threads and 788,942 posts.

Over the past 22 hours (approximately) the tally of users who have contributed increased by 48, yet examining all of the threads with new posts during the same time period I found only a few first timers with posts. What exactly is being counted?

You are misunderstanding. The first number is the number of users... NOT the number of users who have contributed. The language is a little loose. Think of it this way: "The 500 member's of first church of Internet street contributed $5,000 to the virtual food kitchen project." The 500 number represents the whole church, but not the number of actual contributors.

Perhaps. I would think that it would include FL.com as well, but I am not sure.

I would guess that FL.com is included, because the logins are interchangeable. My guess is that they use the Community Server login table to store logins created on the forum or any of the FL accessible websites. So while the forum is distinct software, the overlap on the back end may be contributing to the user count.

Justin, given that one must have a login to use the desktop app and given the counts we have been given for users, I doubt that is correct From early 2010:

Dale Pritchett (VP of sales & marketing, Bob's father) quoted the figure of a quarter of a million today at the Camp Logos seminar. He might have been rounding up, but I'm guessing there have been significant numbers of new customers since 4.0 shipped.

or from 2012 counting accounts rather than "users'

We have more than a million user accounts. The data architecture is huge, and distributed over multiple databases at multiple sites.
