How would I look up a word in the English dictionaries in my library, without 1st opening one/them?
L4 is open, I'm working on a message in Word, & I'd like to check the meaning of a word that I'm thinking about using. In L3, I'd have used the Dictionary Lookup in the system tray. What's the most efficient way in L4?
How would I look up a word in any thesaurus resources that I have in my library?
Same scenario. Working on Sunday's message... want to check several alternative words...

In particular, I'm wondering if there's something I can key (or copy/paste) into the command window to do the lookup... Or has someone written a macro that'll use the word (if it's on the clipboard) + a button on L4's shortcut bar? (I'd love to have an enhancement like that, if such doesn't exist...)

The command bar can work. Personally, I keep shortcuts to the dictionary and Thesaurus in my shortcut bar.

Even quicker in the Command bar type: "Lookup Word" (where lookup will open your highest ranking dictionary to the "word" you are looking for).

Thanks for your suggestions... I've ended up putting shortcuts on the shortcut bar... When I tried the Lookup command, I kept getting ISBE. I DO want double click to go there 1st, so I don't want to prioritize it lower than Webster / Oxford dictionaries. I sure hope Logos comes up with a command that'll take us ONLY to the highest priority dictionary--perhaps a DEFINE command... and an equivalent command to lookup a word in the highest ranked thesaurus--perhaps SYNONYM.

Sometimes I can put the cursor over a word, double click and it opens up an English dictionary. Other times it opens up a Bible dictionary. I'm on sure why the difference.

Depends how you prioritize your resources.

Open the Library window.
At the top right, click Prioritize.
Right-click the dictionary you want to use first, and choose Prioritize this resource.
Repeat step 3 for four more dictionaries.

When you search, Logos will look in those top 5 dictionaries, in order. If you Bible dictionaries for the first four, and Mirriam Webster as #5, it will look in your Bible dictionaries first, and then in the ordinary English dictionary if there were no matches in the others.

And that's the blessing & the problem... When I'm looking for the definition of a word, I usually want Websters or Concise Oxford... If I'm looking for synonyms, I want a thesaurus... And if I'm starting from a Biblical or theological text, I probably want a lexicon, a dictionary of theological terms, or somesuch...

I like the idea of prioritization, but this is a case that illustrates its shortcomings, as well as its strengths.

Perhaps it's an issue that L4 equates all these different types of dictionaries. Do we need the "types" need to be more granular?

Since the dictionary is something I use regularly, I keep two in the shortcut bar.
