Pericopes Dataset: Why do I not own it?

I was looking at upgrading to Collector's Edition, and I noticed that it shows that the Pericopes Dataset would be new to me. I own Standard: Platinum and Anglican: Portfolio, so I assumed I should own it already. When I looked at the Standard: Platinum page, it shows that I own everything except that dataset.

My purchase price for Platinum is grayed out as expected, but this one resource shows as not owned. Is anyone else having this problem?

I checked and the chart indicates this dataset would be new to me also. However it does indicate that it is included in all of the base packages. I suspect this is a web site issue.

Do you know if you actually have the dataset in your installation? I didn't take a long time to look, but I couldn't see where I actually have it or how it works.

I had noticed this too.

I don't know if this shows up in the library or not. (I couldn't find it in a brief search of mine though I already own it too). As far as I understand though, the prices are calculated based on what we own the license for, not what is actually in our library. So, for example, even if we hide a book or collection, we won't be charged for it at a later date. Even if it is not currently in your library, you own it if you have purchased it before.

The complication here is that you are going to be charged again for the resource if you upgrade the base package without speaking to a salesperson. This happened to me a few months ago but I didn't realise the implications and no doubt paid twice for the same thing.

Perhaps this is part of the reason why my upgrade prices have gone up again, so soon after the last increase.

Datasets do not appear as resources in the library. However a search of the Logos folder does show that I have that .db

As I said earlier, I think this is just a glitch with the website.

If you get pericope titles when you enter a passage (e.g in Passage Guide) then you have the dataset. It is an issue with the web page.

Datasets you own are listed in the scrolling LH panel of the About Logos Bible Software pop-up. So if ever you wonder, you can check there.

You should be able to find this easily.

As others have said, what you are seeing must be a glitch.

Hi Glenn,

Is this one a bit trickier than it seems? It's been almost a month since this was reported. My base package purchases are on hold until this issue is resolved since I don't want to be charged for the pericopes dataset again.

Could this be put onto someone's priority list?

I agree. I had not seen this thread and had questioned this to a representative personally. They said they are aware, but nothing has been done to fix it on the website. Six dollars is six dollars.

Hi David, thanks for adding your six cents about the six dollars! Of course it doesn't cost $6 in a base package because of the discounted pricing but as we say in the UK "Look after your pennies and the pounds will look after themselves."

Hi everyone. The Pericopes Dataset is something we've recentlychanged, from a resource included in a base package, to something we grant for free to every account we set up. That's why it's showing up in the Logos 6 resource lists, but not displaying as owned, because it's no longer a thing that's technically licensed as it was when we launched Logos 6. Our solution to this is going to be to remove it from the lists on the base package pages, since everyone gets it, regardless of whether they own a base package or not.

It has been understood that users pay for datasets and that functions that do not depend on datasets come free with the software e.g. Inline Search; which had initially required an L6 base package. But there has always been a disconnect between Search/Tools/Guides/Documents we have and what is listed with base packages e.g. Text Comparison, Passage Analysis because we are not made aware of the relationship between them and the datasets that are listed and neither are they listed as features included with the Logos 6 Core engine. We might get some of this by trawling a couple of threads in the Logos Now and Logos 6 forums, but this approach would perhaps only be understood by Logos Now subscribers and it is not ideal to have to compare three or more sources.

It is understood that Passge Analysis requires Bronze in Logos 6 packages but only requires Basic in Verbum 6 packages. So does this dataset change imply that Compare Pericopes will be available to all users? Will the Lemma Datasets be free?

Hi again Glenn,

I notice the issue has now been resolved in such a way that it no longer shows up in base packages as something you don't own.

However, it has not affected the price of the base packages. (I think I understand why given your explanation above of how you would resolve it).

My enduring problem is that when the problem arose it DID affect the price of the base packages, which rose by a little bit depending on the level of discount in each package. I tracked this change (though I did not know at the time what had caused it.) It would be simple for you to confirm this, since for me in the UK, the price increases to my base packages increased on the 16th March. If this was when you implemented the change to the status of the dataset, this change resulted in an undeserved price increase. But your fix did not bring about a corresponding price decrease.

Hence my original issue is still present because you did not implement this fix at the time when the dataset was changed. According to the website, on the 15th March I owned the dataset but on the the next day I didn't and my prices for base package purchases increased as a result because I had to buy it again.

Is there anything you can do about this? Or am I completely wrong in my presuppositions?

If you have an issue with the price you paid, you need to call and ask to speak to customer service regarding a pricing issues. They can transfer you to finance if there is a refund due.

Thanks M.J. your advice would be sound - if my issue was for a past purchase. In this case it is for about 20 potential purchases. Since I first bought 2 base packages last September, I have bought at least one additional base package per month with a plan to buy more until I reach the top package in various denominational sets. I have enjoyed watching the prices fall on upgrades across packages as I have bought each one. But the day after my last base package purchase (after the expected fall on various packages which contained some of the resources), my prices rose a little. I suspect this was because of the change in the pericope dataset. Hence my issue and my question for Glenn.

Of course this is not a large sum in any given base package but in effect, if I slowly work my way through these base package purchases, I will actually pay for this 'free to all' resource a further twenty times!

Why? Is it available to all users having Passage Analysis? Should the dataset still be listed under Compare Pericopes in the Logos About... window?
