added wiki page to demonstrate how to do this. By default, the Tools windows are narrow and they do not permit re-sizing the width. But there is a simple work-around.

It seems this is unnecessary in L4 version 4.0aSr3. Somewhere thru the update process they have changed this so that just dragging the Tab to a new location does this for you. Thank you Logos !
This has always been the case (to my knowledge). If you open a tool that doesn't open in a floating menu (either from the "Go" button on the main page, or by clicking on it in the tools menu) it opens in a locked pane. This behavior is overridden if you drag the tool from its menu to where you want it on the screen.
