Logos 6 Fails to Load / Crashes on Startup (Windows 10 Pro)

I've been experiencing this problem for the last several days. When I click on the icon to launch Logos 6, I sometimes see the familiar blue title card as it loads, but then nothing happens. If I click on the icon again to re-launch the program, it may or may not display the blue title screen.

Less often, it will occasionally begin to load the full Logos 6 window and just as it plays the intro chime sound it will abruptly cut out and exit the application.

Your help getting this issue fixed is appreciated. I have attached my log files during the most recent occurrence of this problem. Thank you.

It looks as if the process ends too quickly for the log, so we need to see your Event Viewer log.

There is a problem with a dll C:\Users\Craig\AppData\Local\Logos\System\VCRUNTIME140.dll

As you have the latest version of Logos I suggest:

you delete the dll above (to recycle bin); and
go to Control Panel >> Programs and Features, right click Logos Bible Software and select Repair.

That failing, try to open Logos with CTRL key held and sign in. If it opens it will be a blank layout, and the problem may be associated with your normal layout.

I tried both recommendations multiple times, including rebooting after running the repair but before launching Logos. Unfortunately, I'm still having the same result as before. It starts to load and then crashes near the end of the welcome chime (subsequent attempts usually don't even get that far). When holding the CTRL key during launch, it does give me the sign in screen, but as soon as it gets to the welcome layout, it crashes. I haven't done anything to change the layout screen prior to this happening -- so I'm not sure if the file settings themselves became corrupted somehow, or if something else is going on that would be causing a conflict.

What do you mean by "welcome layout"? It should be a blank layout (nothing showing) and NOT the homepage.

The farthest that it loads before crashing (if it doesn't crash before that) is the screen that I'm referring to as the "welcome layout" -- where all of the news, updates, and articles of interest normally appear. Yes, that currently shows as blank, but it happens so quickly that I don't know if it crashes before it even has a chance to load anything or if it will be "blank" if it fully completed the loading process.

Regardless of whether I try to load Logos normally or using the CTRL key, it seems as though it crashes the moment that it starts to check for updates and synchronize my library. This is more obvious when I use the CTRL key method, because the last message that appears states that it is attempting to synchronize and then it crashes.

I have attached a screen capture within a ZIP file (since adding an image limits it to only 550 pixels across) to show what my screen looks like the moment before it crashes. It indicates that 20 resources have been previously updated, and there is a "1" in a blue circle indicating that there is still another update of some sort pending.

Can you check the Application Error event for each crash and confirm that the "Faulting module name" is VCRUNTIME140.dll. If so contact Tech Support as they can logon to your computer and fix it.

Yes, I re-checked the Event Log Viewer and the "failing Module Name" is indeed "VCRUNTIME140.dll"

Quick update that a solution has been found after contacting tech support.

I was instructed to run the .NET Framework cleanup tool because logs were showing a permission issue between Logos and the .NET framework used. I'm not sure if the .NET cleanup tool actually removed anything, though, but I proceeded as if it did. I was instructed to install .NET 4.6.1 afterwards, but the system said there was already the same or newer version installed on my system.

So, I uninstalled Logos and then did a clean re-install. Things seem to be working as expected now. It is currently downloading and re-indexing my library, which is going to take a while -- but at least it's working again.
