Using Logos to build a sermon on superpowers

Google only brings up cheesy, overstretched concepts. Just do a sermon on what is your God-given ability or talent. You will do your congregation a HUGE favor. Unless you are talking about the ability to perform miracles (which no one possess today), then I don't see why you would want to make loving your neighbors or having patience a superpower when sometimes unbelievers have more love or patience than Christians (love was a "superpower" in one of the google results). My advice, be original, you don't have to do spin offs of whatever is popular now days.  I attended a Bible summer camp where the theme was "Soul Wars" because the "Star Wars" movie was about to come out. The lessons sucked and were obviously forced to the point that even teens were like "...ok...say what..." and smirking, like saying, "You gotta be kidding us!"

If you want to go the "superpower" route, it's up to you, but I personally wouldn't do it. Stay with the basics. And I'm sorry if my comment comes across negative, that's not the intention here. I'm not trying to discourage you, but sometimes "catchy titles" don't produce good, sound, Biblical lessons. Anyway, just my two cents 👍🙂

I might not select an expression like "superpowers," but as the creator of a Bible study resource which is available for Logos, The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, I know that a careful study of Romans chapter 12 will lead to some very relevant material in the Bible. In particular, I enjoyed studying out by means of cross reference Bible study what the New Testament has to say about "one another" ministry, and I keyed the cross references for that topic to Romans 12:5.  There is further insight to be had from 1 Peter 4:9, 10.  And I have discovered what to me has been the most encouraging insights by compiling additional cross references for Romans 15:7.

My newest expansion of what I placed in The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge is now completed, and will appear as Bible software under the title The Ultimate Cross Reference Treasury. It is reported to me that my new Bible study resource contains over 900,000 cross references (and it has just been uploaded in its final form to the servers this very week). I did not just dump extraneous references to create bulk! These references were carefully read, one by one, over a multi-year study (February 2010 until about May 2016 working full time seven days a week, morning, afternoon, and evening), and placed where they clarify what the Bible teaches. Using the resource, one can start at any Bible verse and readily discover the other places in the Bible that relate to that verse, as well as where to go in the resource itself to find yet more places in the Bible that shed light on the theme being studied.

That was the initially proposed title, proposed by Thomas Nelson Publishers, for my second work on cross references published in 2007. The final title selected was Nelson's Cross Reference Guide to the Bible. So the title you found was never actually used.  Nelson's Cross Reference Guide to the Bible is now out of print, and the Publisher says there are no plans to put it back in print. This work was never put into Bible software.

I created Nelson's Cross Reference Guide to the Bible at the Publisher's request. The intention was to produce a less intimidating volume than my first book, The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, by condensing it to half the page count and using far fewer symbols. I accomplished this by eliminating almost all the notes and by consolidating duplicate sets of cross references to nearly 2000 main reference points at verses where the full set of references for a topic or theme were gathered, and all other instances of that set of references were deleted, replaced by a reference to the key reference verse by using the "+" sign to indicate "find more here." There are actually more cross references in the Cross Reference Guide (see especially Psalm 9:10 and Romans 15:7, for example) than there are in The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge. 

But my newest work, The Ultimate Cross Reference Treasury, soon to be released, is far more complete and far more accurate. For the first time since 1809 (when many of these classic cross references compiled originally by Thomas Scott for his five-volume commentary), these references have been corrected to provide the intended reference by me. I painstakingly consulted the original printing of both Scott's London and his American edition of Scott's Commentary, and when I found the error was in Scott, I consulted the sources he used to discover what the error in transcription took place, and then I entered the corrected cross reference.  No other resource, in print or digital, employed someone like me who had the time and the necessary library of some now ancient books to properly accomplish this. Most of the printing errors occurred when Scott's references were compiled in the center column of Bagster's Comprehensive Bible about 1826, and were taken from that study Bible to create the original Treasury of Scripture Knowledge about 1836 if I remember these dates correctly.

It is possible that my new much expanded and corrected cross reference work, The Ultimate Cross Reference Treasury, may at some future date be made available in Logos Bible software format, just as the New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge was in the past. But I have no direct control over that, and have no personal knowledge of how that might eventually be arranged.

I have missionary friends who have asked that this new work be placed in book form, since where they are they do not have access to digital or electronic resources. And some say they prefer doing that kind of Bible study using a physical hard copy Bible and a hard copy literal book for the cross references.  There has been some discussion about doing this in the future too, but we'll surely have to pray for the Lord's opening those doors should it be His will, for there are some difficult behind-the-scenes issues that would have to be resolved or overcome. Of course, when the Lord Himself wants something to happen, He is able to open a way for it to be done.

In the meantime, I am thankful to the Lord for the privilege of living long enough to complete this work as far as I have.
