I noticed this while scrolling my Twitter feed today. Any plans for Logos?

I was under the impression that textual edits were already being incorporated into the ESV.

Would someone from FL confirm this assertion?

There was a fairly recent discussion on the forums about someone having a different text in their print edition in comparison to their logos version and it was highlighted in that edition Logos does release updates to the text of ESV without a separate resource being created that we have to purchase.
Making an assumptio, that is of course not binding on FL, I expect these edits will flow through to our copies of ESV at some point.

In my Library the last update to the ESV was Feb 18 2015, so I doubt it contains any updates from the Permanent Text Editionb 2016.

I don't work for FL, but I can confirm that FL, per licensing agreements, has kept the ESV "up to date." This DOES mean that the copy you have in Logos may not fully match your print edition.
Some translators / publishers release small updates and consider it "the same translation." Other times, they release a "new" translation. The NIV84/NIV11 would be an example of the latter. The ESV, up to this point, would be the former.

That thread was exactly where I got my impression. I just don't know how to find a link to it.

The Logos version of the ESV is not the Permanent Text Edition 2016. The current version of the ESV in Logos is the 2011 text edition.

Can anyone find any "official" source which talks about changes to the ESV text in 2016? I haven't been able to find any.
In any case, if there are changes made, you should expect an update at some point in the future to your ESV text within Logos.

No, which is really odd. The only thing that I found was here https://www.accordancebible.com/2016-ESV/

I have been unable to find anything official about it, and I have tried my hardest. In addition to accordance, I noticed the Grace to You app also mentions the ESV permanent edition. Beyond those two sources I haven't found anything else.
The In Earthen Vessels website that was mentioned is the most comprehensive information that I am aware of at this point.

I talked to someone @ Logos about this. They won't update the ESV 2011 text. It'll be a new 2016 version for purchase.
I asked when they will be updating the ESV 2011 text and the guy exclaimed, "the publishers just can't give out free Bibles". LOL
Logos is a little disappointing. Especially the iOS app. Can't change font, etc. There are free eReader/Bible apps that let you do a bunch that you can't do on Logos.

For what it may be worth Gavin, it wouldn't be the first time someone from the frontline at Faithlife was disconnected from what will actually take place. I dont foresee having to re-purchase an update to the ESV. Everyone received the 2011 text without charge. The 2016 text will likely be the same. It's just a matter of when...

I wouldn't get too disappointed there Keith. It's likely that Gavin was given incorrect information from a Faithlife employee who didnt know better. We all received a free update on the 2011 text. Why wouldn't the same be true with the 2016?

Yeah I agree. After he said that, I was like..."I don't think you understand what I'm saying, they are only doing a few changes." He asked a few more people and told me the same.

OK, so I just talked to someone else. They said it WILL be an update, just no ETA for right now.

It might help if one, or both, of you would upload a picture so that we can tell you apart. Otherwise, we are inundated with little green "Brad's".

Why didn't they change this verse from:
“I am my beloved's, and his desire is for me.”
The Song of Solomon 7:10 ESV
to
“I am my beloved's, and his desire is contrary for me.”
The Song of Solomon 7:10 ESV??
It's the same Hebrew word

How does that make it ok to add words that are not in the original Hebrew text?

Jennifer Jolene said:
not in the original Hebrew text?
There are no English words in the original Hebrew text. Some contexts may require more than one English word to gloss a word from another language and some words have to be supplied for a sentence to make sense in English.
Example an infinitive verb often requires 2 English words for 1 Greek/Hebrew word. Another example is where a Hebrew word is prefixed and suffixed, both of which require extra words in English to communicate. Don't be too quick to assume that there is something twisted being done behind the scenes.
See below where the words in question have no verbs and must be supplied to make sense in English ("am" and "is" are both supplied, they aren't in the Hebrew)

Hebrew isn't English. Greek isn't English. When you want to convey the same thing in another language, you have to make choices. There is absolutely, positively no such thing as a 1=1 correlation in any language. If you want a 1=1 correlation, you have to stick to the original languages alone.
Consider this German Word: rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz. How would you translate that into English? You can NOT translate it into a single word. Google's attempt at a "word for word" translation is "beef labeling monitoring task transfer law." A more natural english translation would be ""the law for the delegation of monitoring beef labeling."

But why add "contrary"? The preposition means "to" or "towards"

What alabama24 said.
Also, though I would share your reservations about the change in Gen 3:16, I think there's more going on linguistically than what you put forward.

Hi
it looks like it is still the case that there is no ETA.... this is what Customer Support sent me on Sunday:
"As of this time we do not have an estimated time of completion for the ESV Permanent Text Version.I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."
A colleague of mine tells me that Accordance already has these updates.

I pray that this helps you.. This is my source.. though strictly not the best CT has never been sloppy nor played footloose with the facts.. In other words. if Ct says it then you can take it to the bank.. here's the link..

Try this one.. it goes to CT. A trustworthy Magazine that reports on all aspects of the faith and peripherals..

an update is a small change in wording here and there.. Those are supposed to be free in accordance with ebook etiquette.. hundreds or thousands of textual changes involving rewording entire sentences and or paragraphs changing meaning dramatically is considered a revision and in such cases being a new book a price will need to be payed.. though usually with the ebook versions such formalities are dispensed with.. Bibles excepted.. Mamon is very important to churches.. she is broke I guess..

I have had some strange dealing with logos in the past so I can safely say that it is totally possible that it is not the ESV publishers charging for the updates but Logos who is charging for it implying that the ESV people want the money.. perhaps I can locate the ESV phone number and ask about this.. I would not be surprised to find that it is Logos trying to make the money like when the student prophet went after the general after he was healed and told him that Elijah or Elisha had changed his mind and that now he wanted money for the healing as his reward.. Caveat emptor..
