Find unread portions of a resource's completion ring

I see the completion ring showing the parts of a resource I have read on my iPad.  Often I will skip chapters but will come back to a resource later but have forgotten which chapters I have read or skipped.  How do I know what the gapped areas in the completion ring represent?  Is there a way I can navigate to the gapped areas that show in the completion ring?
