Personal Translation Tool - best way to do it?

Please share any tips on keeping your own Bible Translations in Logos...

I have done all my translation work in Mellel (word processor) because it allows me to have section notes which are like footnotes but come where I specify in the text. This makes a nice page with the base text, followed by my translation, followed by notes, followed by commentary. Following this process I then paste my own translation into a Logos notes document so that when I'm looking back at a verse, if there are translation issues I've already thought through then they show up. Obviously this only applies to small sections and a couple of whole books but not much of the Bible.

I find myself wondering? Is there a better way than notes? Can you make a personal book Bible? Is anyone doing that? I think a personal book commentary might be a better resource type for this but I'm not sure?

I remember reading that Logos was working on a tool for this? Anyone heard any more?

I've found the personal books section on the wiki but it looks very complicated? Would anyone be willing to share a word doc template for a personal commentary/Bible?

John, I'd love for Logos to develop a translation tool. I have never heard nor seen Logos approaching anything like it. My impression is that the translators are not high priority for Logos. When they do a survey of how we use Logos, I often wish there would be a category for translation or field work. But, as we say in German, hope dies last.

It would be hard to do what you want to do in Logos, especially since your translation seems to be a work in progress. If you are still heavily working on the translation, then you would need a tool that lets you type and edit your translation. Even better, if it had a notes section with each verse. However, if we had such a tool, it would probably make it much easer to put translations (of minority languages, personal translations etc.) into Logos. Creating a personal book (PB) can be a quite labor intensive task for a Bible.

However, if you have sections that are pretty much finalized you could use the attached template and paste your translation into it. Then compile it as a personal book and choose type Bible. Once compiled the PB Bible works pretty much like a regular Bible in Logos. You then can make a new Notes document and attach the notes to the correct verse in your PB Bible. Your notes and the attachment points will stay intact, even if you rebuild your personal book Bible after editing or adding new sections.

If you wanted to make a commentary type of book out of your notes, you could use the same template and then compile it as type commentary. But you wouldn't need the {{field-on:Bible}} and {{field-off:Bible}} tags. You could delete them out of the template using find and replace.

Thanks guys... it appears word on the mac can't handle files as big as Sascha's. At least it's still opening the file after a few mins! I think if I'm understanding right then there is no need to keep it all in one big word file though? I could have one file per bible book for example?

I have the same issue on my Mac. It takes some time to open it, but not minutes. And while working with it, it uses a lot of CPU. I don't know why it is.

I think splitting it up into smaller files should work. You then need to select all the different Word files in the PB tool and that way combine them when you compile your PB Bible.

I know this is a really old thread at this point, but I ran into a similar problem. As a software engineer, I knew there was a way to fix it, so I did.
