It seems that every time I open Logos, the program spends several minutes "Preparing library...." Is this normal behavior? Or is it perhaps a sign of an issue in my installation?
Logs would be needed to decipher. See my signature line.
Tech Support tells me it is not uncommon for "Preparing files..." to occur every time I open the program. But just in case, I've attached a log file (or at least I think I have? I couldn't get the whole zipped folder to attach, so just selected the file in the Logos Log Files folder that has today's date).

Hey Mary! These logs were adequate. I can happily say that nothing in them points to there being an issue, or anything along those lines. Startup looks completely normal. Some minor index/manager file updates but that's typical for app startup.

Yes, but it shouldn't be "several minutes." Did it take "several minutes" when you grabbed the logs? If so, what kind of drive do you have? How much free space? What capacity?

Thanks for your help, Alabama!
When I restarted Logos with logging, it showed "Preparing library..." for about 30 seconds. When I started Logos for the first time today, it took about 2 minutes to "prepare the library."
My hard drive is about 80% free, Toshiba MQ01ABD100, 918 GB capacity, 140 GB used.
I'm never sure when I open Logos how long it will take before I can really get to work. I attribute this to my enviable position of being a long-time Logos library accumulator, as well as a Logos Now subscriber, and so I receive lots of file updates.
Plus, my use of Logos is sporadic, with weeks of intensive use and weeks of no use at all (while those file updates queue up, just waiting for me to log on again).
(I'm think about making a suggestion to give us more control of the process of checking for updates, so I can let those downloads occur at the end of my work session, not the beginning.)
Tech Support told me I should be able to use Logos normally even while it is "preparing library." But I'm reluctant to ask it to do anything demanding, because when the program crashes, it can take a while to get back to where I was, both in the program and in my own train of thought.
In Tools > Program Settings set Automatically Download Updates to NO. Then you can download when you are ready by clicking the notiication.

That is not demanding. Indexing is demanding, but you manage that with Automatically Download Updates = NO.

Create a new thread with logs when it crashes. You can manually save your layout when working with the command Update Active Layout (you can drag that to create a shortcut in the toolbar).
Thank you, Dave! I set my automatic download time to start at 5 p.m. I think that will help me a lot.
