Google Translate? (German in Logos)

So I am reading a resource in Logos and unfortunately when the author quotes a non-English resource, he leaves it in the original language (eg. German.)

I take it since that is how it was published my only chance of understanding the German quotes are to use Google Translate?

Any help here?

In spite of disagreements with particular exegetical and methodological aspects of Sandnes’ work, his assessment of the prophetic dimension of Paul’s apostolic ministry has generally been regarded as a useful depiction of Paul’s relationship with the Old Testament prophetic tradition. In the wake of Sandnes’ study, however, there have been relatively few attempts at a systematic exploration of the way in which the prophetic tradition shaped Paul’s apostolic self-understanding. One notable exception at this point is Wilk’s comprehensive analysis of the way in which the book of Isaiah functions in Paul’s (undisputed) epistles.8 Wilk argues specifically that the ‘Botschaft’ of the prophetic material, particularly that developed in the Isaianic tradition, constitutes the basis upon which Paul constructs his own self-understanding and theology. The prophetic material of the Old Testament then becomes in Wilk’s view the central aspect of Scripture (‘Zentrum der Schrift’) from which the rest of the Pauline material radiates.10 In somewhat of a contrast to the emphasis of Sandnes, however, Wilk’s more narrow methodological focus on the book of Isaiah leads him to contend that the connection between Paul and the Old Testament prophetic material is particularly rooted in Paul’s conception of his apostolic ministry as an extension of the message developed in Isaiah:

In general terms, therefore, Wilk asserts that the Isaianic material provides the primary rhetorical and theological foundation upon which Paul constructs his apostolic identity.
The broader approach to the relationship between Paul and the prophetic tradition developed in Sandnes’ monograph is also reflected in a recent essay by Nicklas that seeks to renew the discussion of the prophetic influence on Paul’s construction of both his apostolic self-understanding and his epistolary material. In specific terms, Nicklas’ thesis is that ‘Der Apostel Paulus verstand seine Berufung und das damit verbundene Handeln und Argumentieren auch als prophetisches Handeln im Anschluss an Israels Prophetie’.13 In support of this overarching thesis he provides an analysis of a number of texts from the Pauline corpus under the general headings of ‘Berufung und Selbstverständnis’ and ‘Argumentationsformen’ in order to explore the ways in which the prophetic material shapes both Paul’s identity and rhetoric. Consequently, despite the relative brevity of his essay, Nicklas is able to account for the methodological implications of both Sandnes and Wilk, as he discusses the influence of the prophetic material on both Paul’s apostolic self-conception and his theological argumentation. Nicklas provides a cautious assessment of his analysis in light of Paul’s apparent reluctance to identify himself as a προφήτης in his extant letters, but notes that the various ways in which the prophetic material influences Paul’s presentation of his ministry and formation of his epistolary arguments suggest that this is an important part of Paul’s apostolic self-conception. Consequently, Nicklas concludes his essay by noting the importance of further study into the prophetic dimensions of Paul’s apostolic ministry:

Trotzdem zeigt sich, dass die hier diskutierte Dimension des paulinischen Selbstverständnisses nicht vernachlässigt werden sollte, ja dass auch die weitergehende Frage, inwiefern der paulinische Begriff des Apostolats von Ideen der Sendung alttestamentlicher Propheten abhängig ist, noch einmal systematisch untersucht werden sollte. Das weitere Suchen entlang dieser Fragestellung könnte mithelfen, Paulus von Tarsus noch stärker als bisher als charismatischen Juden seiner Zeit verstehen zu lernen.

The present work aims to analyse Paul’s relationship to the prophetic tradition in 2 Corinthians along similar methodological lines to those drawn by Nicklas, examining the influence of the prophetic tradition on both Paul’s presentation of his apostolic self-understanding (‘Berufung und Selbstverständnis’) and the formation of his rhetoric (‘Argumentationsformen’) in the epistle. The selection of 2 Corinthians as the primary textual basis for the present study stems from the relatively minimal amount of material on this portion of the Pauline corpus with respect to a systematic examination of Paul’s relationship with the Old Testament prophetic tradition. For example, Sandnes provides a contextual analysis of only 2 Cor. 4:6,

Agreed, I have asked for it before something like the Oxford German-English Dictionary would be nice, the Latin one is already in Logos. French might be worth considering too if there is enough interest. A dictionary of everyday German Language would complement the Theological German Dictionary that is available for Logos.
