Community Pricing

I just wanted to say that I am very grateful to those who have promoted Community Pricing. With the posts on how to do it and what the benefits are, I have bid on everything. This to say that I took the advice that even if I weren't all that interested in the book itself, that I could bid the minimum and help bring it to print. The ones I really want I bid as high as I would pay and I've already received a book for $6 (under my bid of $7). I hope they get alot more titles in the venue.

I can second the thought. I sort of knew what was happening but never really did much with it. I think it was the conservative side in me. I now have a couple of things that will come for a small amount of money compared to the pre-pub price. I will probably really like it when it truly happens.

I bid the minimum for one of the books I was not too interested in (yet they all have value!), and I considered it an investment, for if everyone does it, then the books I am interested in will go to contract too! So consider me a bid for every book from now on.

Which brings me to Catena Aurea by Thomas Aquinas - we are almost up to 60% at $20! Thi sis a classic, teaching compiled from many of the Church Fathers by one of the greatest Christian theologians in history! Would you consider a bid?

I am so grateful that more and more people have discovered community pricing. I think Bob and Logos had just about given up on it, as evidenced by all the public domain works that they have been adding to PrePub. Their original intent was that just about all public domain works would be processed through Community Pricing.

I have always been amazed that more people have not caught on to what a great system Community Pricing is. I really appreciated all of you who are committed to bid at least something on works that you are not all that familiar with. Better yet, join the "Maximum Bid Club." A growing number of us are committed to biding the maximum amount on every book that comes through community pricing. This has several advantages:

1) It guarantees that you will always have a high enough bid. Some people have forgotten to raise their low bids of say $2 and missed out on great works that sale for on $4 or $6.

2) It will help push the book into production at what ever price ends up being the "sweet spot," because any bid includes every bid lower in price. Thus a $10 bid is also a $9, $8, $7, $6, $5, $4, $3, $2 and $1 bid.

3) It helps build momentum early. If you have been observing community pricing for a time, it is obvious that interest picks up as the "sweet spot" move closer to the 100% line. The sooner a work cross the 80% mark the sooner all these fence sitters will join in.

4) Finally it is fun to get that email that informs you that you have purchased a book $10 to $20 less than you bid.

So always bid something and always as high as you feel comfortable with.
