Search Question

I'm working in Matt 5:3: Μακάριοι οἱ πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι. I wanted to see other examples where πτωχός is modified by a dative of reference. I happen to know that there are 355 examples of this type of dative in the NT when I run that search by itself in NA28. When I add the lemma constraint, πτωχός is ignored and the search (morph or bible) returns all 355 examples when searching the NA28. Why can't I combine the two criteria as I've done here:

<Lemma = lbs/el/πτωχός> WITHIN 2 WORDS <SGNTSyntacticForce = dat. ref.> OR {Section <SGNTSyntacticForce = dat. ref.>}

Why can't I combine the two criteria as I've done here:

You need to contain the syntactic force terms in () - otherwise the "OR Section" returns all results which matches the dative of reference

πτωχός is ignored and the search (morph or bible) returns all 355 examples when searching the NA28.

Another way to look at this:

<SGNTSyntacticForce = dat. ref.> does not return any results but it is usually served up in searches from the Context menu, so

<Lemma = lbs/el/πτωχός> WITHIN 2 WORDS {Section <SGNTSyntacticForce = dat. ref.>}

is a simpler solution.

This is where I think creating the actual syntax search is more helpful. You get a more precise search and you get to learn more about the database as you do it.

Concur plus found John 12:6 happens once in New Testament (like Matthew 5:3) to modify πτωχός

The Luke hit seems to work. Even though, when you look at the expansions and annotations of the LSGNT, they have πτωχὸς (appositionally) modifying Λάζαρος which then is modified by ὀνόματι.

But, still, the John hit is false. περὶ τῶν πτωχῶν modifies ἔμελεν. πτωχός doesn't have a dative of reference related to it as in Matthew 5:3 and loosely Luke 16:20.

I thought about a syntax search, but the opportnity to expand a morphlogical search into the LXX and some of the tagged non-biblical texts seemed important at the time.
