Are Automatic Updates working? I have needed to click on an update button during each week recently when Proclaim starts the last few weeks.
Hey Bob, automatic updates are working, but we still sometimes choose to prompt at startup. Usually this is because there's an important fix that we want to make sure you have, but in today's case it's because we just re-branded the application and want to get it out there ASAP. The update should still be skippable if it's too much of a bother.
Thanks; just wondering if there was an issue on my end, no worries.
I see for a few weeks now, what seems like all the updates (because there have been so many with prompts) are are no longer automatic. Have you removed that feature now?
We're still mixing in background updates with "prompt at startup" updates. We typically will prompt at startup when the update changes the UI in a significant way, or if a significant bug has been fixed. You can almost always skip the update prompt at startup and it will install in the background.
Good to know, I think I'll start doing that as it will save some idol time. Isn't it crazy how we focus on time. Maybe I should just pray while waiting! I started doing that while driving now a few years ago. What a blessing!
It would be good if you could rename "Skip". The user isn't skipping the update, they're just delaying it.
I'd actually prefer the ability not to allow the user to update, especially on Sundays, and just have it run in the background. The last thing you want 30 minutes before the service starts is someone downloading and installing a new version, especially if the WiFi is slow. or there's a bug!
Hey Mark,You mentioned not updating on a Sunday which I totally agree with you on. We usually don't update late in the week unless it was a severe issue. This does come into play though on how often the church computer is checked up on. However, for Sunday's instance you can skip the update as we check for updates every 5 minutes (both operating systems), but won't install if On Air on Windows.

Yeah. The PC we use to go on air is only used for our services, as all the editing is done offsite. So most Sundays we get the update message. We do skip it, and it's not a big deal. It's just another (small) thing we need to train our volunteers to remember to do.
