Fonts

A couple of questions about fonts:

  1. What is the default font?  I'm not complaining about it - I actually like it.  I'd just like to know.
  2. Any particular reason why SBL Greek is not available as a font for Greek?  SBL Hebrew is available for Hebrew, so I don't think licensing would be an issue.  Personally, I think the SBL Greek is easier to read and better, but obviously more choices is better anyway.

Sorry -- we should (and will) support SBL Greek.

The default text font is "Athelas", from Type-Together. (http://www.type-together.com/Athelas) This font should be getting even better, with some improved hinting and wider character support for diacritics, etc. before the release.

The UI font is a custom variant of Alber, from MoreType. (http://moretype.co.uk/)

These fonts were chosen for various reasons:

    1. They're awesome.

    2. They have rich support for OpenType features. I hope you'll notice (or rather, feel the subtle beauty of) the use of OldStyle numerals (digits the dip below the baseline), Small Caps, and even fi and fl ligatures in the books.

    3. They have excellent (and still to get better) support for diacrtics and other complex characters we need to display transliteration of Hebrew and other languages. You should see fewer "ugly fonts" in the middle of lexicon entries, etc.

We have licensed these fonts for embedding in the application, so they only work inside Logos 4. If you want to use them in your word processor, you can purchase copies online from various font vendors.

It tooks us a long time to identify great fonts that met the technical and licensing requirements. Thanks for noticing!

OldStyle numerals, Small Caps, and ligatures... AWESOME! These sorts of details really make text nice to read!

    Bob,

Any word on when SBL Greek will be supported for Greek font?  It is already the default Greek Transliteration font.

This is supported in Beta 5.

FYI folks: According to those websites Bob lists, Athelas is 49 Euros for one type of the font or 169 Euros for the whole package (4 styles). Alber is $30 for a single type or $210 for the package (8 styles). They don't mention if this includes Logos' customised type. Hopefully these fully transfer to other Unicode fonts and still look ok because I don't think too many of us are going to want to shell out that kind of money for a font just to quote a passage.
