Can you expand a bit more on what you are looking for?

Are you looking for some form of lexicon or is what is provided in the Bible Word Study Guide the sort of think you are looking for?

Hi Graham, thanks for the welcome. Well to be honest I am still finding my way around LOGOS 7 starter edition. I like the Exegetical word study guide. I only have access to the word by word tool. I imagine, let me know if I am wrong, that I will get access to the other tools in this section once I upgrade to Bronze edition latter.

I was just wondering if there was a really good complete Hebrew/Greek word study collection or add on that may be worth investing in that links really well with the LOGOS 7. Sorry if this is a silly question as I am only new and just learning the program at the moment. So thinking everything to do with Hebrew/Aramaic/Greek/English lexicons, dictionaries, strongs, interlinears, concordences and whatever else may be a good suggestion for complete passage context study etc etc...

Thanks again and apologies if this is a silly question.

No apologies necessary - a great and totally understand question. And any questions are fine!

Yes the Exegetical Guide is good and the word-by-word tool gives a lot of information about words in a passage. For more detailed study of a word, though, do have a look at the Bible Word Study Guide. My screenshot above was from the Translation section of that Guide. And it provides quick access to lexicons and information on how the word is used.

And, yes, if you upgrade to Bronze you get access to all the features (in the full feature set) but the information returned by the various Tools and Guides does depend on what you have in your Library.

For these it may be worth looking at the "Library Expansions"

I'd suggest starting with Bronze and then identifying what you are missing and build up from there.

Although it is worth checking whether there are a lot of "addons" you might want that you would get in Silver. If so, this might be a cheaper route over all.

    Hope this helps, Graham

    Hi Graham and Dan,

Funny that you suggested the BDAG/HALOT Bundle and the AMG Bible Essentials as I was looking at these earlier and already have them in my wish list. I had a look at the LOGOS SILVER and I think if I got the BRONZE edition and got both the above sets it would be cheaper giving me better function in the Bronze set. I do get more resources in the silver but I am not sure if I would ever use them to be honest.

I really appreciate your help. Still not closed to the idea of the SILVER edition but I am not sure if it would be better then the BRONZE set with the BDAG/HALOT Bundle and the AMG Bible Essentials. Still a little confused my end. Too bad they do not offer a full function LOGOS that you can customise for similar price points.

Thanks very much to both of you

    God bless

One way in which there are custom options at the same price points is looking at the different "denominational" streams - https://www.logos.com/compare/libraries?productIds=81150,81158,81165,81172,81187,81179,81192,81199 compares a number of them at Silver level.

You might find that some of the orlginal language resources you are interested in are available in different packages.

And it may well be contacting someone in sales, letting them know what you are trying to do and seeing if they can suggest something.

Hi Graham, yes I have had a look at the denominational packages they seem to have the same functions and books for the different packages. I think that is also a good idea for contacting LOGOS staff and see what they suggest. Thanks for all your help here. I really appreciate it.

    God bless

    Hi David,

    Welcome to the forums!

On an unrelated note, it is possible that Logos 8 will ship in a couple of months. It may be more cost-effective to wait until Logos 8 ships before upgrading your base package to Bronze.

You will not only save due to L8 introductory pricing and combo discounts, but you will also be buying and owning L8 features in your Bronze base package, that have been developed since L7 was released.

(You could still upgrade your L7 base package now, then upgrade to L8 later if that interests you, but I wanted to ensure that you knew something newer and better is just around the corner.)

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

    Hi Petah and Graham,

Thanks for the advice. I am aware that LOGOS 8 is due sometime from now to the end of the year thanks for your advice here.

I just finished talking to the product advice team at LOGOS. They suggested that the best way forwartd for the word study system would be the upgrade to the BRONZE pacakge and the BDAG/HALOT and AMG essentials for rmy needs over the silver and other packages.

For the other packages I cannot see the value of paying for all the other things I would never use.

He offered some nice discounts. I asked about LOGOS 8 and if I was best to wait for this to come out. He tried to sell me the current upgrade but I was not convinced I would be out of pocket further when LOGOS 8 came out so I may wait for the upgrade to LOGOS 8 to come out before upgrading with all the other packages. In the mean time I will try and learn about what I currently have while I am waiting.

I think in my view from what I can see the LOGOS software is very nice. I think these guys however would get many more customers however if they offerered the BRONZE package as the main package with all the tools available and add another package option maybe called BRONZE CUSTOM where the buyer can choose his own books that they would use.

I can't see the value of purchasing any of the other packages and paying for books and libraries I would never be likely to use. How do you guys feel about it?

Thanks for your help everyone. I think I have some direction. I guess I will look to wait for LOGOS 8 before upgrading to BRONZE to get all the tools and add in the BDAG/HALOT and AMG essentials for Hebrew/Greek word study and whatever else I may need. CUSTOMISE is the way to go in my view.

    God bless.

It sounds like you know what you need, David! I'm glad that Graham and Dan were able to help you with Hebrew/Greek word study resources!

The QuickStart for Logos 7 videos (found on the Home Page sidebar, and in your library) will walk you through the basics of the program's user interface, covering topics such as the home page, library, documents, guides, and searches.

Your Logos 7 Starter package also includes LT271: Study the Bible with Logos: Jonah 1. That course will use many features and tools of the Logos program in the context of bible study. (Note that some features may only be available in Bronze or higher, and are not included with Starter.)

For further information regarding a specific feature or tool, check out the collection of Logos Pro videos.

Of course, you can post any questions you have on the forum!

Hope those resources help you learn more about Logos!

    God bless.

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

Base packages are discounted 85+% over retail. This is due in large part to special deals from the publishers to sell (all) the specific resources involved.  You would lose that discount by picking your own books (which you can do - get the free "basic" version and buy the books you want).  Getting both a steep discount and custom books isn't plausible.  The publishers of BDAG and HALOT, for example, understand these are indispensable resources and aren't interested in discounting them.

Personally, I think the base packages are a great deal. The featured commentary set alone often pays for the whole base package.

Well, some like it spicy, some don't. I got the Original Languages package 13 years ago for $300 and change. Then added what I specifically wanted, almost always on sale. Some each year, adds up, soon 4,000 volumes or so.

I think the key is get what you need (waiting for L8 of course). Then wait for sales.  I can't imagine why you'd get BDAG/HALOT and AMG, both.  One is  high-end, the other, entry. That said, AMG seems unique with synonyms and antonyms. I may need to ignore my advice and get AMG also.
