Passage Guide Question

I recently purchased Logos with the closing of Bibleworks. I bought a couple of books on Job to add to my library. When I search the passage guide for select Job verses, I don't see these books anywhere in the results. What should I be looking for? One book is "How to Read Job" by Longman and the other is "Preaching the Incomprehensible Job" by Thomas. Thanks for any help.

Patrick, welcome to Logos and the forums. The passage guide works most reliably with resources that are organized by Bible chapter and verse, like commentaries.
One way to find where particular passages are quoted in a monograph is to use the 'Cited By' tool. Open your resource(s) (what Logos calls books, etc.) you want to look in, in this case your two books about Job. Open the 'Cited By' tool Tools>Lookup>Cited By. Put in the passage reference. Choose 'All Open Resources' from the drop-down list.
It's also possible to make a Collection of books and then edit the Passage Guide to include the collection. This will require learning about editing or creating new Passage Guide templates and making Collections, which are worth learning but maybe a little bit down the road.
Both of these solutions depend on the verses in your passage being quoted in the resource, and that may or may not get you what you want. Another approach would be to search the resource for a topic or term in the passage.
As I write this I am reminded of the learning curve you are facing. Play around with the application, work through some of the online tutorials and ask questions here, and sooner than you think, you'll be on your way to power user.

Dudley, thanks for your reply. I had already figured out the "collections" feature and added it to my passage guide with the 2 books. When I searched on a text in the passage guide, it pulled up several hits from the 2 books.
I am surprised that I had to do this extra step to search the books. I figured they would automatically be listed under commentaries or theology in the passage guide. Is there a way to know before you purchase a resource whether or not it will show up in the passage guide? Or to put it another way, is there a way to do sort of a universal search of everything in your library at once?

Yes you can do that.
So, for example, if you want to search your entire library for every reference to Job 1:12 you could run the search below:
To constrain the search to a set of resources - such as a collection or "open resources" - click the "All Resources" link and select from the various options.
You will see that even though I selected Job 1:12 I get results for ranges that include this verse. There are various ways in which this can be modified as outlined in the help file
If you want to match on just references to that particular verse put an "=" before it
Does this help?

Thanks Graham--that is helpful! I probably would have eventually come across the search feature in the tutorials I'm working through, but I appreciate the quick help!

And please do post back with any further questions about the use of the software. There is normally someone around to advise

Welcome [:D]
Faithlife has many resource types, which includes Commentaries (with Bible Milestones for verses) => https://www.logos.com/products/search?Resource+Type=Commentaries&unlocked=no
Passage Guide section for Systematic Theologies includes a link to search All Systematic Theologies (Library resource Type):
Resource option for forum discussion is a thread asking about resource recommendations, which can include question(s) about Passage Guide appearance.

Logos.com product page => How to Read Job shows Resource Type: Monographs
Product => Calvin's Teaching on Job: Proclaiming the Incomprehensible God is also a Monograph (default Resource Type that lacks attributes for classification as a different Type). My library shows this Monograph only has Page indexing. Note: some Monographs have Bible indexing.
Searching all resources for Job 38:1-42:6 references includes "Proclaiming the Incomprehensible God":
Milestone search is useful to find sections in Commentaries and other Resource Types with Bible Indexing:
Searching for sections about Job 38:1-42:6 finds results in Bible Commentaries, Bible Notes, Monographs, ...
Passage Guide has resource results in Commentaries section ordered by your prioritization. Screen Shot shows resource ordering by Count.
Commentary => UBS Handbook Series Old & New Testament Collection (55 vols.) example of Job 38:1-42:6 milestone search:
FYI: personally have added year prefixes to many resources with Bible Milestone Indexing so sorting by Resource has chronological ordering.
Keep Smiling [:)]
