So, we're pretty novice at projectors, screen sizes and such. But, or maybe so, we need help.

We have a pretty unique - and need a very precise - projector image to screen size. Long story short, we covered a window in our church, making it a screen - and it's tricky because the windows shape is a triangle shape, and that's what we project onto. It's been great for a year but now our old projector is dead. In playing around with some projectors I'm noticing that while 16.9 seems to  be pretty close to what we need filling most of the screen, 4.3 is tiny - almost like it's resizing inside of proclaim.

My question is: Why? why does 16.9 fit most of screen, but 4.3 isn't even close? Is it a Proclaim thing? Is it a projector setting? If we buy a new projector what should we be looking for? In the projectors that we have been looking at some offer 16.10 and this seems to give us a real good fit - but will that work in Proclaim?

The reason that 4.3 is important is due to the shape of our screen and the template we already have made to make square images fit the 'triangle' shape.

Thanks for the help!

Assuming you are projecting to an equilateral triangle you should be slightly better off (greater display area) using the 4:3 aspect ratio, as shown in the images below.

You should be able to adjust your projector zoom to fill the available space while preserving the aspect ratio.

Why are our images getting 'squeezed"?

This shows that 4:3 fits our screen...

This is a 4:3 image created using Keynote and imported to Proclaim, which is set to run in 4:3. (And it's not just a Keynote problem. All of our images get 'squeezed' ...

Hi Jamie,

Could you post a couple of the image files that appear squeezed in Proclaim?

Can you make a test presentation for us to check out that reproduces the issue? Once it's ready please let us know and I'll have someone from our team investigate further.

This happens in all of our presentations. Go ahead and pull any of them up that have the 'triangle' mask...

Our projector is set at 4:3 (Epson EX51). Proclaim is broadcasting in 4:3. We've tried Mac and PC. We've tried changing resolutions.

Nothing... Everything matches the images that I've already posted. 4:3, outside of Proclaim, fits our screen. 4:3 running proclaim gets squeezed. 16:9 running in Proclaim does not distort the image but it makes it very small.

FIXED with new projector. Overscan option was needed.

How are you masking the projected image?
