Does anyone have both editions of The Anchor Bible commentary for Mark? I have CS Mann's, but was wondering if there's a huge difference.
mm.
I would guess there's going to be a huge different between commentaries on Mark, generally, but maybe especially in this case. And I say this even though I'm not familiar yet with the newer edition.
I hope I'm not overstating the case here, but when I was in grad school, people were completely puzzled why the editorial committee chose Mann to write a volume since he apparently had no academic credentials that would merit it. After reading the contribution, people were still wondering why he was picked. However, he does defend the Griesbach hypothesis, so if that's your cup of tea, then your evaluation might not be as severe as mine.
But I, too, would love to see if the newer Mark volumes are good contributions to the field.
Well that's very helpful. Mann was suggest by my NT professor at seminary. Maybe he didn't know what you just wrote. Thanks.
