Did you notice the Neusner works in pre-pub?

Which ones did you order?

I personally signed up for Christianity, Judaism, and Other Greco-Roman Cults (4 vols.), as that's where my study is focused.

Yes... And just in case others haven't spotted them, here they are in their full pre-pub URL glory:

The Rabbinic Traditions about the Pharisees Before 70 AD (3 vols.)
A History of the Jews in Babylonia (5 vols.)
A History of the Mishnaic Law of Appointed Times (5 vols.)
A History of the Mishnaic Law of Holy Things (6 vols.)
Christianity, Judaism, and Other Greco-Roman Cults (4 vols.)
A History of the Mishnaic Law of Women (5 vols.)
A History of the Mishnaic Law of Damages (5 vols.)
Jacob Neusner Works on Judaic Hermeneutics (7 vols.)
Jacob Neusner Select Works on Rabbinic Judaism (10 vols.)
Jacob Neusner Select Works on Jewish-Christian Relations (4 vols.)

I'm in on Mishnaic Law of Women, Judaic Hermeneutics and Jewish-Christian Relations, but I am secretly hoping that they won't all suddenly go into published mode at the same time so that I can obtain a few more...

I signed up for Jewish-Christian RelationsJudaic HermeneuticsChristianity, Judaism, and Other Greco-Roman Cults; and Rabbinic Judaism. I still wish they'd combine them all into a larger Neusner bundle with a deeper discount. If they did that, I might be inclined to buy the whole thing. Man, that guy has been prolific!

That was my first thought, too.  But then I figured that the bundle, even though it contained a deeper discount for individual works, might be prohibitively expensive for most people and thus take ages to garner enough support to actually get published....

Agreed, but I wasn't suggesting the larger bundle instead of the smaller ones, but rather in addition. That way every order for the larger bundle can be considered an order for all of the sub-bundles and will move each of them further along towards completion. The only people who might potentially have to wait longer for their stuff would be the ones who ordered the least popular bundle or the entire overarching bundle.

This is precisely how the Eerdmans Bible Reference Bundle 2 (currently in pre-pub) works, BTW. It contains lots of sub-bundles, each of which is available independently in pre-pub.

I am wondering how those will be tagged. Currently I have several books that are otherwise tagged, but references to Talmud are not tagged. I assume tagging references to Talmuds may require some expertise, some sort of Talmudic nerd? Cool

Gold package, and original language material and ancient text material, SIL and UBS books, discourse Hebrew OT and Greek NT. PC with Windows 8.1

I certainly expect them to be tagged. I don't think Talmud references are any more difficult than Bible references, when you consider the different canons that are in use, and the different chapter and verse numbers (and even book breaks) that exist.

Talmudic nerd? That would be Jacob Neusner, wouldn't it?  :-)

(I know what you mean: a technician on staff at Faithlife who can ensure the references resolve correctly.)

I bought today https://www.logos.com/product/49378/introduction-to-rabbinic-literature and when testing, most references to Mishnah do work, but I could not get any links to Talmud to work, like [T. San. 3:11A–B)].

Well, I pre-ordered these three anyway:

The Rabbinic Traditions about the Pharisees Before 70 AD (3 vols.)

A History of the Jews in Babylonia (5 vols.)

Christianity, Judaism, and Other Greco-Roman Cults (4 vols.)

Gold package, and original language material and ancient text material, SIL and UBS books, discourse Hebrew OT and Greek NT. PC with Windows 8.1

That is my fear as well. I ordered A History of the Mishnaic Law of Appointed Times, of Holy Things, of Women, and of Damages. If they all are released at once I may have to cancel one or two and I really would prefer not to.

That would be a perfect solution!!

If anyone has Talmudic nerds on staff it would be Faithlife. I know that they have nerds of one specialty or another: Semitic Languages (Mike Heiser), linguistics and discourse analysis (Steven Runge), Greek Apocryphal Gospels and Apostolic Fathers (Rick Brannan), and more. So perhaps some Talmudic geek as well.

I went for some of these. Kind of tough though. I agree with Rosie that a package might be better.

Of course someone will gripe and want it broken up.  Where have we heard that before?Wink

Maybe Faithlife has given us the best discount they can for each of these, and a combined package could come later (when the initial discounts are gone)?

As I pointed out before I would want the larger package in addition to the smaller bundles, not instead of them. So nobody would have any excuse to whine about wanting it broken up.

  • Order now at the 75% discount
  • OR: Take a week or more to decide, dither a little and pay the same amount for a third of them (or less)
