New Public Domain Group ?

I think logos should start a public domain group. I was looking on finding the best way to get public domain books. I came across a website that charges $100.00 membership fee and you can download as many public domain books as you want. These books come in a variety of formats, so you can put them into the pbb.

I would be really cool if logos started a similar group. With enough members, the membership fee can fund the production of these public domain books. This would also bring in the "low end" customers seeing as they can get resources and use the logos engine. Eventually those who use logos will want to upgrade their library to something more suitable for study and purchase base packages and so on.

It seems like a win for those who are already active in the community pricing, and draw those who are not in. For those who are use logos currently, and for those who do not.

I don't know how much a logos employ makes but if we get 400 users that pay the membership fee. We can pay someone 40,000 a year to publish these public domain books. Also the public domain members we can help publish these titles also.

Just a thought, it seems like a win win for everyone.

I'd really like to see Logos move to a "pay to pub" then free model for public domain books. For years I have used e-Sword, I just bought Logos Scholars Edition. I wanted some of the newer materials available - but recoiled at the thought of paying for publicly available resources such as Strong's Concordance, Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Bible, and Keil and Deilitzsch. I understand that there is extra work that goes into converting these books to make them fully cross-referencable, etc. - but I think it would be nice if there was a set "cost" for making these books into a module ($10,000, $20,000?), that we would pay for this up front (who can afford to) and when the modules were actually "paid off" they would then become freely available.

I think Logos is missing a great opportunity to hit the lower-end market by doing something like this - at least with the more common public domain materials (Matthew Henrew, JFB, Strong, etc.). While e-Sword is free I have both donated to them and have purchased commercial modules (NASB, NET, and Hendriksen's N.T. Commentaries) and would buy more if they were available.

Would the price be the same for all publications? Would Chapman's New Testament Insert cost the same as the ICC series? Besides, there is the Community Pricing page. While on the subject, I might mention that Alford's New Testament for English Readers (basically a commentary) is on the verge of going over the line at $16.00.

Would the price be the same for all publications?

That is one reason why I think the membership fee would be great. Whether the set is small or big, everyone would have chipped in so to speak to have it produced. Whether I have to pay $100.00 membership fee or more, we would all win. There would be more then just current logos users interested in this sort of thing. I think it would draw in all kinds of people and get them familiar with logos 4.. WIN WIN
