Bob Utleys Red Bible

Anyone watch some of Bob Utley word study commentary videos?

In some of the older ones he's reading from a red Bible that has some Greek word explanations. Particularly (it's evident that it is actually in the book at times) in some of the videos on 1 thess. The translation is unfamiliar on some word choices, though modern.

Anyone know what Bible that is? It would be from some years past as I believe He looks quite a bit younger in that 1 Thess. video.

I've been looking for a Bible with just such information.

Right now as a minimum I end up carrying around a Greek NT, Zerwick's Grammatical Analysis, and a NKJV. Sometimes even more, Metzger, UBS, a polyglot, LouwNida. Which seems stupid since my laptop weighs less and isn't as bulky and awkward, but power ends up be an issue at some point. Still if I could find a single resource in print book form (I know a single resource is beyond all that I listed).

If you don't know does anyone have a suggestion? Big Smile

Semi-modern translation,
near word for word (some latitude for dynamic equivalent)
Greek word expansion/explanation - grammatical Analysis like Zerwick
some Chain reference -maybe Greek word usage related references.
Possibly Greek Interlinear or one page English w/resources and Greek on the other page.

Oh and if it's not too much to ask some like that for the OT. Stick out tongue Just kidding.. yet?

Gee Anthony, all I carry is my iPhone. [:D] but I will be adding the iPad when that is available.

Seriously, I love being able to do original language research during a SS or a Sermon. Not sure my SS teacher or Pastor are quite as thrilled about it though.

I'm not ready for the iPad... er, ah... the iPad may not be ready for L4.

Anyone have even a suggestion of a resource in print.

When my Pastor saw me carrying a Greek NT, he accused me of checking up on him. I just looked at him and said "Well Yea". [;)]

Well I'm not 100% sure but if anyone is interested it appears that the red Bible he is reading from:

THE NEW TESTAMENT in the Language of the People Translated from the Greek by CHARLES B. WILLIAMS.

The translation was originally printed in 1937, by a New York publisher, Bruce Humphries, Inc. and later by Moody Publishing in the late 50's. His daughter now owns the rights and is releasing short print runs in hardback.

He got his Ph.D at the University of Chicago in 1909.

He taught at Baylor University and helped establish the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary library when the school first started. Later he served as Dean of Southwestern Seminary; President of Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham, Alabama; Professor of New Testament Interpretation at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia; and Professor of Greek and Ethics at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.
