Is it possible to search a clippings document?

Yes... and no. On Mac, you can use command-f to bring up a "find" or "Search" box. You can type things into the box... and it will hide clippings that don't have the word you are searching for... but it won't show you where in the clipping the search term is found. 

I assume there is a similar windows command.

Ctrl+F from the clippings tab will provide a simple search as described above. The other alternative is to perform a Basic Search of All Text in Your Documents. The result shows only the relevant documents but a (future) release of v6.5 is being tested that provides results analogous to those for resources.
