Searching for an Exact Word--There HAS to be a Better Way

Admittedly, I don't use this feature often. But when I need it, I need it. Last time I remember searching for an exact word, one of these two options would get it for me (so you can see how long it's been, LOL):

  1. Enclose the word with quotes.
  2. Use nostem: to eliminate different forms of a root word.

Neither option appears to work in L6.

What I want is to find "thankful" or "thankfulness" in the NT. What I DON'T want to do is wade through all the instances of "thank" or "thanks".

Option 1 above failed to limit any results.

Option 2 above produces ZERO results.

The new Logos Help file had NO HELP on finding an exact word.

The Wiki offered no help as I defined the problem, but its exposition of the "?" & " * " operators triggered an idea that was successful: try searching for " thankful?, thankful* "  found what I THINK I'm looking for.

What should've been a simple task ended up taking an hour of research & then ended up with a jury-rigged solution. There HAS to be a better way!

How can we search an English translation for an exact word?

Thanks for listening!

Grace & Peace,
Bill

I am not sure what resource or resources your searching, but entering "thankful" OR "thankfulness" in a bible search returns 4 results. Make sure you have the "match all word forms" turn off on you search pane.

Doesn't this give you what you want?

    1. Be sure that "Match all forms" is off i.e. no stemming

    2. Enter the terms you want separated by a comma or OR ... no quote marks needed.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Fredc, Randy, & MJ, THANK YOU so much for pointing out the match exact & search pane options. Guess I completely missed those. :-)

I KNEW there had to be a better way!

    Many thanks again,

    Bill
