What is the best price ever for NICOT & NICNT bundle?

The current Logos sale price is $1229.99, but I see that it is on sale elsewhere at an even better price of $779...

Just wondering if it is worth to pay the extra to have it in my Logos library? Or should I wait out for a {freak} extraordinary sale like the recent NIVAC series which was very heavily discounted...

I have decided that at either price, I will not purchase the NICOT or NT. I have over the years bought one or two of them. I personally would rather have all my books in Logos, for ease and searching. However, $500 is quite a bit of money and I would say no.

I think you are correct. Which would explain the price difference. Although, if I remember correctly the sale was last summer. I don't know how many volumes have been added since.

At least 3. I bought my bundle in March for $1199. It didn't include Judges, Psalm, or the revised Corinthians volumes. These volumes are included in the current bundle.

The current price breaks down to $26 and change that seems to be reasonable fo4r the type work that it is. Logos resources have much more added work than other digital and print works sold elsewhere. Logos payment plans make purchase reasonable . I understand that it does not always fit in all budgets. I just have a hard time when others say they see resources for sale elsewhere for a cheaper price. I am thankful for the tedious work it takes to tag these resources. These folks do not work for free and Logos is not a non for profit. Let us all be more thankful for all that FL does and the discounts,dynamic pricing, and freebies they constantly provide. I am not aware of any other companies that have dynamic pricing or the constant sales that FL has. I read in my Bible to be ye thankful, so please let us all be a bit more thankful for this company and this software. [:)]

I own these commentaries and they are some of my most frequently used. I highly recommend them. Although they are expensive, I don't regret purchasing them.

I used to own NICOT/NICNT in Logos but foolishly sold them. I plan to buy them again some day. I just need to decide this month between NICOT/NICNT and the Zondervan sale.

This is the only set I consider core. There are certainly many other excellent exegetical commentaries but this series has such an overall excellent balance that makes it indispensable.

For a large bundle it's very near the pain threshold. OK so it's lots of content all of it manually tagged but the Logos pricing on this one (which btw keeps to continually rise) quickly narrows down how many can ever afford this set during this ongoing decade. This is not a beneficial pricing model. Only the enthusiast of recent full commentary sets will benefit from it being offered:

Yes but that's exactly why each potential customer has to think whether they want to pay Faithlife workers, besides the Eerdmans publisher, for the tremendous amount of work: i.e. whether it (has been or) continues to be worthwhile work that needs to be paid so expensively. The sharp difference in price proves that the other company manages to do about the same amount of work much more cheap. Btw this set is offered by more companies as well, such as The Word. Yes, but we don't as customers employ anyone to do the tagging - we don't set the salaries for workers at Faithlife. However as soon as we buy the set we approve of all that Faithlife is doing with the set, the price, the amount of work, and Faithlife's agreement with the publisher Eerdmans. There are options when it comes to in which platform to buy, and there are multiple options when it comes to which set to buy, and almost unlimited options if cherry-picking individual volumes, plus we can subscribe to Logos Cloud and get the full International Critical Commentary New Testament series:

The other company doesn't offer dynamic pricing on everything. Just on Collections that include the software, however they do offer upgrading pricing on many more items than Logos does. Last time Logos offered actual equivalent upgrade pricing was when Pradis customers that had the Expositor's Bible Commentary wanted the Revised Expositor's Bible Commentary - at that point in time they got a really good price on the Revised one thanks to owning the original one in a software (Pradis) that Logos had bought. That was many years ago. However the other company mentioned in the OP that has a sale on NICOT/NT continually has that kind of upgrade pricing on Bibles - both English, Hebrew and Greek as well as some other things: i.e. if You have the Old Edition You get a really good price when the New Edition has come out. Logos always charges the same amount from all customers for New Editions. And in case You happen to get a good deal from Logos it means You have waited for the New Edition volumes to be incorporated in the main set and then buy the new full set with dynamic pricing - however that's always a slower process since Logos and publishers want charge a bit higher prices when the volumes are still brand new. The other company offers low prices when new products are out - sometimes however - for example with the Theological Journal Library they offered the lowest price ever to current academic customers only, many many years after the Theological Library had first appeared - I'm still on the fence whether to buy it, the price is fairly low: $100 and I'm being indecisive - Logos offers such a bundle (with fewer journals, Tyndale Bulletin is missing but they've added Themelios - other than that I haven't thought about the differences, there are some added ones in the Faithlife bundle particularly among the bolded ones) for $395.39 on pre-pub. I'm definitely sure I don't want the Logos/Verbum version.
And the other company, while not having as many sales, do discount some of the most sought for resources pretty regularly and also has extremely competitive pricing and quality on their Syntaxes:

All I'm saying is: we are are not forced to buy and accept. If it's expensive to You and You have alternatives You shouldn't have to buy the full set on a payment plan. Besides, payment plan is not available with all banks. And buying a top-level commentary set shouldn't mean You are stripped on funds to buy other things. I wouldn't buy this particular commentary set at any price because I don't trust it - my opinion is based on reviews and where I stand theologically myself. There are very few sets I've recommended to buy outright and I usually don't recommend buying in Logos.

I do not consider it core myself but have it in yet other software.... I really wish I had it in the software where it is currently on sale. Purchasing it there you will have no regrets I am sure.

Unix, Much of your post sounds like a commercial to dissuade readers from buying Logos products. You keep referring to other companies. Please be a little more thoughtful. These forums are for discussing Logos/Verbum/Noet products.

Logos is a fine piece of software and I have been careful not to name the competitor who has it on sale. I recommended it on the other platform believing it the equal to Logos, and Logos will never offer it that cheap.

Totally agree on this... In regard to the program, though I'm waiting for some features to still be fixed, overall no other software compares.

For some things it is worth it, however in relation to this thread, customers should question why there is such a huge price gap. FL may not be getting the best deal from the publishers and by users posting that competitors are selling for such a drastic price cut, maybe FL can question the publisher. (If it is publisher related and not just FL)

At the other price point, it would be more attainable for more users...

I remember before I started to quit playing games with Bible study software. I had a MacArthur Logos library on my PC. Logos 4 came out and I was testing it on my Mac. I had no idea what a little treasure I already owned until I saw it displayed in L4. I couldn't even afford Scholar without a payment plan, but I decided to put the whole issue before the throne and proceed with the plan. In less than a day, I received the full amount for my Scholar package.

IT does seem out of place, we have been told time and time again that comparison of Bible software is acceptable, and there is nothing wrong with constructive criticism, but I am not seeing that here. I use Accordance, Verbum/Logos, and OliveTree. All three have their strengths and weaknesses to compare these is not against the guidelines. Unix has a zeal for another software and that is fine but I will agree that these forums are not the place to seemingly encourage the abandonment of FL software.

Of course FL has some strengths, and it's the best that I start mentioning them in this post, but I'll start with that in this case, FL's licensing rule that says that resources can be installed on an "indefinite" number of devices owned by and used only by the person who has the FL account, is a disadvantage and may have raised the share of money i.e. the royalty that FL has to pay the publisher, Eerdmans, per each electronic license holder. Other software typically have the same conditions but with a limit of five devices altogether. Now, this disadvantage is a benefit to me personally as I have more than five computers plus two older tablets (that were OK and cheap at the time, still good to read from on) on which I have installed.
One strength of FL that I have recently discovered, is the number of relatively cheap Systematic Theologies, as I bought the ("Topical") Theology Bundle XL and Biblical Theology Collection (21 vols.) (although I don't care for the Christ in the OT or New Testament in the OT -titles) - I calculated that the interesting-to-me titles in the latter collection would cost $163 minus a few cents, and my dynamic sale price is $174. I also bought a multi-volume Anglican Systematic theology in FL used, the author was Francis J. Hall and I'm very grateful for it.

There are Reverse Interlinears for some of the most common English Bibles, I benefit from the 1971 RSV 2nd Edition Reverse Interlinear New Testament which can be bought separately (I got it on pre-pub). Most of the rest of the Reverse Interlinears have to be bought with a base-package or crossgrade which is a disadvantage as it raises the price on all base-packages and some users object to getting any Reverse Interlinears in the first place. I avoid using FL for languages at this stage because there are too many "shortcuts". In the other software I haven't upgraded to the newest version so I can't paste original languages (to for example look up a word) but have to type in the original language words - which forces me to learn more.
Regarding base-packages: FL had a one-day sale on bundle which was not a base-package which I thought was better composed: the 2014 Cyber Monday Mega Pack (145 vols.).

FL has some resources that others probably won't sell: Moffatt New Testament Commentary Series (16 vols.),
De Gruyter Deuterocanonical and Cognate Literature Studies (18 vols.),
Select Works of Markus Barth (5 vols.), Aquinas' Commentary on the Prophet Jeremiah: English and Latin (2 vols.),
Select Works of Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza (3 vols.), Biblical Performance Criticism series (although it's divided up in a couple of bundles, one of which contains completely other things as well),
live products: ICC, Sheffield / T & T Clark Bible Guides Collection (44 vols.) was very inexpensive on sale and sometimes individual volumes are on a sale, The Encyclopedia of Christianity, vols. 1-5, Cambridge Greek Testament for Schools and Colleges, The Wisdom of Jesus the Son of Sirach or Ecclesiasticus and the volumes included in the 2014 Cyber Monday Mega Pack, more of fairly inexpensive books by the Catholic scholar Raymond E. Brown, Eerdmans Critical Commentary (ECC) -series, The Church’s Bible (4 vols.), Fire of Mercy, Heart of the Word (3 vols.), Job 1–21: Interpretation and Commentary, Text and Studies on Ancient Judaism (3 vols.) was on a sale $96.96, Bloomsbury Academic Aristotle Collection (5 vols.).

Regarding original languages, Faithlife has the advantage of having Septuaginta: SESB Edition with Apparatus and Alternate Texts which is the second newest Edition (the newest being the new Göttingen Edition which no software has and which is very incomplete), and Sahidic Coptic Collection (3 vols.). (Other than that however, there are two other better softwares one of which I have and prefer, the other one I haven't ever recommended but their advantage may be having a better manuscript images system than any other softwares.)

Then there are some (a few) individual volumes in large collections that have not yet been broken up.

Additionally, FL has Concordance, Psalms Explorer.
