Terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day?

Just wondering if our friends at Faithlife, like Alexander, might be having a "terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day." The logos.com website and forums have been down most of the day (from here in Europe), and synching still seems to be an issue.

Anyone else having trouble? Any way we can help, beside praying James 1 for us all?

Yes, they have had major problems and were down for a long time (most of the day in Asia).

A little info is available at http://status.faithlife.com/

After the last big outage I thought that steps (i.e., redundancies) were being taken to prevent this from happening again. This is not confidence building with the big push to the cloud with Logos Now etc.

I'm in Asia, the mobile app on my phone had 2GB of data downloaded to it. I have 4,447 resources but had only maybe 600 - 700.

I was reading and then all but 4 resources were removed and it said I only had 44 total  resources on my acct.. so now I have to redownload the books i want again. This is the 4th or 5th time that Logos has just updated or linked to my phone and wiped out all the data, I am really not liking this. The point of download a resource is to have access to it if the internet connection to Logos is gone.

Why should Logos delete the books that we download to have access. Thankfully I turned off my tablet so i will not have to redo that..

The setup of Logos network servers should not be tied together that if one fails, we lose access to all.  It looks like it is a all or nothing network...

Maybe I am wrong with the way things are setup but, I am not really understanding this.

yep.. problems, not happy. But at least I'm not the one who has to fix it. :)

Or explain why it has happened again after so much reassurance that it would be very unlikely to occur again because of the redundancy set in place.

    Cloud and Logos....not for me.

There has to have been some sort of cascade failure in order for everything to be down like this.

They had set up a second site in order to have some redundancy. HOWEVER it really hasn't had any opportunity to handle live traffic. Which means there may well be bugs in the system that didn't turn up until today.

This event should prove to harden their system, and hopefully iron out all the bugs.

Same thing happened to me with one of my tablets.

It is now re-downloading thousands of resources.

I can't imagine what this would be like without the superior connectivity/bandwidth that I have.

Yes, the same exact thing happened to me. This is just one more reason why I have been saying for a long time now that the iOS apps need to not be so heavily dependent upon the Logos servers. My apps became instantly useless once the servers were down. The cloud is not dependable, please make the iOS apps more able to stand by themselves!

I've become so tired of waiting for Faithlife to make this move that I finally purchased a Windows tablet (even though I am a mac guy) which runs Windows 10 and the full Logos 6 just so I could have a mobile Logos experience that wasn't so tied to the cloud and to Faithlife's servers. Every time I suggest that Logos make their mobile apps more independent from the servers they always say, "oh the mobile platforms can't handle this" but yet a Microsoft tablet can handle it just fine. As I've been saying, the mobile hardware technology is advancing leaps and bounds. To say that mobile devices don't have the hardware to be independent from the Faithlife servers is just an excuse. I have it now on a Windows tablet and it works great, so don't tell me it's not possible.

This is an absolute mess and I'm very disappointed in Logos/Faithlife today.  I have been a loyal user since 2011.  One of the selling points to me was the ability to have much of my library available on my tablet while offline.  I had 254 resources downloaded.  Once the outage occurred I only had 44 which were all Bibles.  I am a seminary student and it is unacceptable that resources I need to study were not available even though I had downloaded them.  I can imagine pastors and teachers preparing for sermons and lessons this weekend felt a similar frustration.

I am now experiencing problems "redownloading" resources I had already taken the time to download.  And to add to my frustration I get occasional messages on my iPad telling me a resource could not be downloaded or could not be found.  Other than the volume on Acts, my entire NAC commentary set is missing from my iPad.  Do I delete the app and reinstall?  I have seen little communication regarding these issues and I'm very frustrated.  Myself, and others, pay top dollar for resources that we could acquire much more cheaply from other locations and on other platforms.  Why? Because we believe that Logos offers the quality and value.  Events like today call that into question as I'm now faced with taking time out of my work schedule to mess with the Logos IOS app and figure out what I need to do.  I understand there will be occasional glitches (I work in IT so BELIEVE ME I get it!) but I also know that when something similar occurs with my company we owe our clients and customers and explanation.

If you downloaded any resources to your iPad or other device the loss of Logos' servers should have no impact on you accessing them. I am wondering what actually happened for you to lose and now have to re-download those resources.

I'm not sure either but the problem was consistent on both my iPad and iPhone.  The same 44 resources, all Bibles, appeared on both devices but none of the other resources I downloaded to eithe device were there (I had downloaded much fewer resources to my iPhone compared to my iPad).  I just deleted the app and reinstalled it to see if that helps.  I know I will have to download my resources again but I was not able to download all I wanted earlier today.

The same thing has happened here in the Bahamas. Cannot access LOGOS 6, VYRSO; can only access the forms.

Something major has had to have happened for something like this to have happened. Praying that it will be corrected soon; and that everything will be back up and running smoothly.

I remember people reporting the same problem during the big outage in November, 2014. If I recall correctly, it was posted in one of the many thread then that this was a consequence of the way the iOS handles things. I wouldn't know for sure as I don't use any iProducts; this problem has made me very glad that I don't.

I reinstalled the IOS app but am still missing some resources.  For example I have 40 NAC commentaries on my desktop but only 19 show in my app library.  Now I show 21 so I think they're slowly getting added back.  Other users are posting similar occurrences (that their downloaded resources were somehow removed as part of this problem and now they're having trouble adding them back).  At this point I guess there's nothing to do but wait.  I was hoping Logos would have a response to address this issue, but maybe they're still sorting things out.

I will be really interested to know what Faithlife has to say about the disappearance of downloaded resources. I did not experience this on my iPad. Perhaps while you were online the Logos license files were unavailable and the app checks for that. If so, when the license server gets back online I'd expect you to be able to see your downloaded books and not have to download them again.

As I said, I will be interested in learning what happened. Like I'm sure you did, I assumed that no server is the same as no Internet. We'd lose server-based functionality but retain our resources.

If you request it you will get an email telling you when FL goers down and when it comes up again. Sometimes the reason as well. I count at least 9 reports of it going down so far today ....

I've been getting FL status notices throughout the morning ... down, up, down, up, down ...  Latest one at 10:10 CDT.

... spoke too soon ... three more notices hit in the last few minutes.

I can confirm that all downloaded resources on my Android phone (Note 2) were erased. The app showed that I was still logged in, but all of my downloaded books were gone, and virtually none of them were available to re-download. My library alternated between showing a total of only 44 books or 17 books available, none of which were showing as having been downloaded.

I posted this in your new thread too, but for the benefit of others I am posting it here as well.

Don, I am also frustrated about this server outage. There is a way to get around it on Logos 6, however:

Basically, if Logos detects that you are connected to the internet, it doesn't give you the option to work offline when you start the software. So what you have to do is momentarily disconnect from the internet (turn off your wifi, etc.). Then launch Logos 6, and it will give you the option to "Work Offline" and you can select that option, and then reconnect to the internet (turn your wifi back on, etc.). I hope this helps.

All I did was open the app on my iPad this morning.  Many resources, including my NIV Bible were just not there...  So, thinking it's an iPad glitch I open my iPhone.  Same result.  In my office - My desktop version had kicked me out, and now won't open.  So all I did was open the programs.  Not very good result...

Experiencing the same. No new resources are downloading. I know that it is due to this recent issue with the infrastructure.

The last time that I have seen that, was during the massive crash a while back. I'm not experiencing that this time, but I did notice during service today, that I could not change to a book and verse in the Bible for a while. Had to grab a paper Bible.

So far, my resource count remains in tact.

There appears to be endless syncing going on in L6. Resource count is still in tact. Also noticed something strange that began late last night, and that was the "Updated Resources" had dropped from 66 to 6. Resources and licenses are still working AFAIK, as I opened a few without issue. Ran LLR and compared with the day before the infrastructure issues began, LLR reported that it needed to copy a new catalog (which indicates a change), however, the reports reported no missing or added resources.

I can also confirm that my downloaded library items (300+) have been deleted from my Android device. The apps should be updated to handle this specific scenario, whatever error may be.

Mark you must be an exception if it has never happened to you.  This is a known bug that was widely discussed in previous server crashes.

Yes! That's exactly what I have been trying to say (https://community.logos.com/forums/t/115018.aspx).

I am actually pretty pleased with the desktop app's ability to function without internet. If you read my simple workaround that I mentioned above in this thread, you'll see that it's really not a major problem and you can easily work offline with Logos 6 during Faithlife server downtime. It's the mobile apps that have a long way to go in this department.

I got an email saying the problem is resolved (from the status subscription website)

The status web site says residual issues being investigated

Verbum 6 now logged in. But syncing has been going on for 10 minutes - and I have done no work today.

Up means up for good, not up intermittently (I have gotten scores of emails saying problem resolved today). Is it up or not?

I have about 30 saying the same, and another 30 stating that the system is down. I think the message is automatically generated whenever there is a change. I wouldn't trust the status messages too much at this time.

Logos went down, but I didn't even notice. Honestly. Until I tried to pick up the Noet freebie. Thats with writing the sermon last night and this morning, and using Logos for an assignment thereafter.

Perhaps if I were in a position where I HAD to use my tablet, or should I have needed to login, or download a new title I would have been more deeply affected. Thus far no plans to put on the brakes when it comes to shrinking the overlap between physical and digital libraries.
