Rino M. Dattilo:O MY! I think its working!! Martin, can you update us. When I first invoked it, it asked for word services.
Yes, we made changes to the services in Beta 4 to try to work around Apple's service lookup and our application. It appears that although the service is registered with our application and everything looks correct, instead of connecting to the service of the running application or the one listed in the services dump that you provided it appear that Apple is simply looking for the first application it finds with the name Logos. Unfortunately, it also appears that they find the launcher application inside our application first before the actual application. This is also why completely removing Logos and installing Verbum causes the "Replace with Passage" service to work as it was incorrectly advertising its service port with a name other than Verbum.
Rino M. Dattilo:I updated to the latest build of 10.11.1 (GM) and then Logos beta.4. Now the service reads different. Does yours say, (logos)?
The service labels were also changed for Beta 4 to read "Replace with Passage (Logos/Verbum)" and "Open Copy Bible Verses (Logos/Verbum)".

If after you have run Beta 4, your service menu does not say "Replace with Passage (Logos)" as Rino posted, you should be able to log out and log back in to your Mac and the OS will update the available services.
No - mine doesn't say (Logos) AND it still doesn't work - still switching over to logos and doing nothing for a minute plus -- and then returning to Word.
SO - how do I install the new Beta ?

Make sure to read the warnings. Beta testing isn't intended to let users gain early access to cool new features, or even to fix bugs for them. The purpose is to test the application. Sometimes things go wrong. Really wrong. If you only have one machine and need your installation for work, it is advised that you DON'T participate in beta. Make sure to read all the warnings. If you have time, inclination, and would like to help make the app better, please join the beta!
Also: you should make sure to change channels back to stable once the testing round is over unless you intend to continue beta testing. Some users (including myself) will go back to stable and wait for several rounds of betas before rejoining. Later builds are not guaranteed to be more stable (sometimes they aren't!), but most of the time it is safer.

Thanks to both of you. I did read all of it, especially the warnings and 'heads up'... at this point will wait for it to trickle down to the stable release. While not as elegant in format capabilities, the services function works steadily in Accordance... just sayin'
Hugh
I am just curious of what format capabilities is better in Logos? I think Accordance is much better in that. It matches destination formatting and you can tell it how to paste (i.e.. paragraph, verse by verse)
I wish we could have morphed it all into one. Logos was a gift to me. Accordance is what I used for the longest time. They are both amazing - but I really needed Logos to work on the computer I have it on.
By the way, the beta 4 is really stable - just saying.

That was a good one!
Accordance will allow you to change the formatting in the preferences under Citation. The system services that Accordance used prior version 11 was done by Joe Weaks - a pastor/programmer hobbiest. It was a great package because you could tell every service to used a different key command. So F7 could have been ESV, F8 could be NIV. It was great. I have not figured out how to do that in Logos with the service Replace With Passage (Logos).
Accordance 11 now uses "get verses" which is invoked by option-command-A. A little window will appear on top of Pages or whatever you use. You put in your passage and then hit enter. You can change versions in that little window by command - or command +. The other thing that it does great is that it will match your destination format. I use Helvetica Neue 11pt. So there is no reformatting. Logos pastes things in Helvetica 12pt. So I alway have to reformat the paste.
The reason I have wanted the one in Logos to work is I like the way it puts in the scripture superscript number on each verse. Plus an individual laid out the $3k for my package as a gift. I did not need it but there are things that Logos does that is great - so I use both. I needed the paste in Logos it to work. I like highlighting the passage typed in my document, then hitting a key command and having the reference pasted right in.
I thought that this feature people would scream about. So when it wasn’t working I was surprised that 1) it took so long for it to be fixed and 2) that no one seemed to care. Anyway, I am SUPER THANKFUL for Martin (DID YOU HEAR ME MARTIN!) I just wish that a bit more time was invested in it.
I hope this helps, just let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Thanks. I am using the Insert Verses service with Accordance. Saves a step or two and works pretty much like Replace with Verses in Logos... Still looking to have it format with reference at the beginning and the text (with superscripted verse numbers) following. Putting the reference in puts the complete reference before each verse, even in paragraph format. Leaving the reference out means I have to reinsert the reference after doing the insert verse thing. Oh well.. you are right, would be nice to combine a working version of Logos with the one from Accordance.
The command to "replace with passage”, if Logos is closed, now opens Logos. Hope this will be fixed soon.

It has always done this and is the way services work. Since our application provides the service it must be running; if it is not, the OS starts the program so it can respond to the service request.
Still waiting :-(
Hugh DeLong: Still waiting :-(
Just to clarify, are you waiting for the stable release? We just shipped an RC to the Beta channel today, and if all goes according to plan, we should have released the stable version within the next two weeks.
If this isn't what you are referring to, could you please elaborate?
Yes - some of us do not use the RC / Beta versions... and it has been over a month since this feature broke... Some of us use this feature daily.
I know that Alabama was making comments about the beta, but I can tell you that this build has been solid for me. Everything is back working. You can download the beta link and then it will update when the final is released. Just saying my experience ;)
Rino
Steve,
It would be great if you could make the service match the destination formatting. I think that is a big code fix :) .... PLEASE.
Thanks for fixing too!!
