Pastor James:

other than resources, what features, data sets, etc are you using that make it worthwhile to upgrade?

  • Thematic Outlines
  • Timeline
  • Biblical Word Senses

Interactives:

Thanks Graham,

Can you expand your answer on any of these areas? I'm a pastor, also teach Adult classes at church and I a semi-Seminary setting.

I suggest you look at the "What's New in Logos 6" thread - https://community.logos.com/forums/t/92701.aspx - which outlines a lot of these features

Some examples:

Ancient Literature shows how early writers referenced scripture

Being able to distinguish people and places (etc) makes searching more precise

Propositional outlines gives a view on how a passage is structured

Reported speech enables searching for who is speaking

Psalms Explorer provides a visual way of looking at Psalms types and filtering by them. Here I have selected Psalms attributed to David and tagged as Chiastic

Hope this helps - but please look at the thread I referenced above for more context

Is there anything particular you are wanting to do that you can't do with the core engine?

Thanks Graham. Not looking for anything specific, just wanted to see what others were liking and using.

But with "other than resources" you are ruling out a major aspect. Only base packages will give a 90% discount on resources (if you don't count getting public domain stuff on Community Pricing). And the crossgrades that give you features & datasets without lots of books are rather expensive if bought on their own without the dynamic pricing of an existing base package.

NB,

i agree, but the added value to me for the additional resources, is less than the upgrade costs. Thus, the reason for the wording of my question. And you are correct about the cross grades. Their price is almost equal to a full upgrade with more resources. So, my decision is staying with the free engine upgrade or doing a package.
