Boot Camp Assistant and the Apple website say Book Camp works with XP and Vista with no mention of Win 7. XP is history and Vista is, well Vista…
It has been upgraded to work with Windows 7, but even before that in Snow Leopard, I used it with no problem at all. Although I did move away from it and strictly VM now.
I use a 24" iMac at work with a Windows 7 Boot Camp partition. It worked flawlessly even before Apple's update.
I have installed Windows 7 64 bit in a bootcamp partition. There were no major problems until I upgraded to Bootcamp 3.1 with my 27" iMac and the Windows wouldn't boot up, and so I have fallen back to Bootcamp 3.0 at the moment. So far I have one problem with the bootcamp 3.0 drivers and Windows 7 - the scroll wheel of my wireless magic mouse does not work! Because of this, and the convenience of MacOS with Windows together I'm mostly running my Windows 7 under Parallels nowadays.
Thank You Terry, Robert, & Amy
I purchased a 15" Mac Book Pro in anticipation of the NC LUG (very few nuts) meeting in Greensboro March 20. I have XP running under Parallels 5, and I may stay there. I haven't really tried it out yet with that configuration.
Thanks again.
Jack
I believe you use parallels and fusion? I currently have fusion 3.02, and was wondering if I install parallels also will it take up another 24gb on my macbook, as I currently use this amount with fusion?
Thanks
Eric
Hey Jack. Here's Apple's info on Windows 7 & Boot Camp:

I believe you use parallels and fusion?
I first used Parallels, but abandoned it in the fiasco of version 4. I then used Fusion 2.06, but Parallels offered a good upgrade price for Parallels 5, so I now use Parallels 5. It's not like Windows and Mac. There is no clear winner here. Either one of them does a very good job.

Yes. They do not share VMs.
Kevin, Thanks for the link. I had not seen that page. I just read Apple's sales pitch. Neither it nor Boot Camp Assistant on my laptop mention Windows 7.
Jack: Windows 7 is officially supported under Bootcamp 3.1, but you cannot run bootcamp 3.1 directly. You have to run bootcamp 3.0 to install your Windows 7, and then update your bootcamp to 3.1.
But it is not for the faint of heart. Not that I'm worried about you. [;)] When I installed Windows 7 with bootcamp 3.1, there was a problem with the video driver which caused Windows to freeze (it sent the video signal to another video out), so I had to force reboot, repair the installation to delete a certain driver to go on. And after long last installing everything I tried updating bootcamp to 3.1 but Windows wouldn't boot up anymore. So I had to install Windows from scratch again and that is the reason I've fallen back to bootcamp 3.0. I was 1 1/2 days older after installing Parallels and Bootcamp/ Windows 7, and Logos 3 and 4 in the Windows partition. [:P]
With the progress being made on L4 Mac I wonder if it is worth the cost and effort to pursue this path. I only use Windows for Logos and for TurboTax Business, and soon I won't need it for Logos. TurboTax doesn't require much.
Jack, I would recommend Windows 7, it is a good product and from a MS hater like me, that is some statement. As for bootcamp I really don't see the need unless there are program requirements that can't be met in a VM (i.e. Games). I am running a Mid 2008 MBP and L4 works so well in VM that I abandoned my bootcamp drive and I am totally virtual now.
Jack, I would recommend Windows 7
You must be serious about the recommendation to post it twice [:D][8-|]
I have never tried Boot Camp (other than the USN), so I was wondering it it was worth the effort. I am currently using XP under Parallels 5.
I am still in the process of deciding what to put on this new MBP. So far, it just has Logos and the company Data Base. I probably need MS Word for sales call notes and perhaps a few Bible Study notes as well.
You must be serious about the recommendation to post it twice
Jack, context, context, context. If you will examine closely the grammatical structure of my post, paying very close attention to both the mood and tense, you will see that I used double posting as a linguistic ploy to highlight what I was saying, much as "Behold" or "Truly, truly" are used in the Bible.

Truly, truly
I believe the "One True Translation" is "Verily, verily"
You must attend an interesting church were you end your prayers with "Verily"
I'm using Windows for my book scanner too, and I also access L3 at my office and L4 in my iPhone via RDP, so I'll be stuck with Windows for a while. And I like to isolate my Windows stuff from my Mac stuff therefore I went through all the trouble to install it in a bootcamp partition (I'm not too comfortable with Parallels installation where the whole Windows is but a subdirectory inside your "Documents" folder - it is very easy to delete the whole thing with a keystroke and I had made the mistake once [:(]) But from what I gather you would be better off installing your windows as a VM under Parallels, as you're not as tied to windows as I am. [:)]

Ouch! Did you also empty the trash? I once deleted a folder containing all the company databases AND emptied the trash. Fortunately, I had Time Machine active on that machine. Unfortunately, a VM is much to large for Time Machine unless you have a humongous HD. (humongous is Southern for really, really big) [8-|]
Yes, I emptied the trash as well and there was no time machine (no humongous HD for me). [:(]

I do occasionally drag the VM to another HD. Probably not as often as I should, but it does give me some measure of security. If you don't have a second HD, it might be a good investment to acquire one.
