I have a number of personal books in my library, compiled from lecture notes that I wrote for my students. Most were compiled between 2012 and 2015 on a PC.  Today I tried to open them on a macbook and found that I "do not have a license to view this resource."

What's the solution to recovering these resources?

Thanks.

Hi Adrian, welcome to the forums!

Regarding your books: you need to go to the PC and in the Personal Book tool hit the upload button for those books you want to access on the Mac. Then they will sync to the cloud and automatically download to the Mac machine.

To add just a little to what Mick wrote: Personal books automatically sync the metadata (title, author, etc.) between installations, but the actual compiled book is not synced. If you want to access the book on multiple computers (but not mobile, as personal books aren't currently available on mobile), you need to either upload the book (as Mick suggested) or compile the book on the other installations. The former is probably best.

Third option is manually copying *.LBSPBB resource files from one installation followed by using SCAN command in another installation to copy and index them, which is useful for any personal book(s) that are too large for upload.

FYI: compiling personal book updates metadata that syncs so different installation can have mismatch between compiled personal book resource file and metadata last update.

Hi! I purchased 3 resources from Logos and  it's saying "I don't have a license to view the resource" it's just showing a preview. Thoughts?

Welcome to the forums:

1. It is better to start your own thread with a problem especially when your problem is unrelated to personal books or Logos 6.

2. How long did you wait for the licenses to sync and the resources to download? It can take a while depending on the load on the servers.

3. If you've given it 20 minutes or so and its not showing, enter update now in the input box and the top and wait for a response.

1. Gotcha. Thanks

3. I purchased the books on Oct 31 and its still saying the same thing. I can access it though through the Logos Wen App but not on the dowloaded app.

To me this strongly suggests that you have accidentally created multiple Logos accounts. Please verify that the email address for the desktop application found for the account under "About Logos Bible Software" is the same as you used to purchase the books which you can read on the web.

Whatever you find, you will probably need to email support@logos.com (iirc) since we are volunteers and not Faithlife employees who can do anything. If they are different accounts, ask for the accounts to be merged, which is pretty routine from all the WORDsearch accounts imported recently.

If they are the same, then it may be more complicated...

After reinstalling Logos, none of my logos personal books work. I get the error: "You don't have a license to view this resource." Is there away to fix this without reinstalling them all manually?

If I do have to reinstall them all manually, I'm assuming all my workspaces that bring up those resources -- will be broken and have to be rebuilt?

Finally, if indeed I have to manually reinstall all the Personal Books - I'm assuming I need to find a way to remove the old remnants of the original versions of each personal book?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It depends. The error message is not really correct, of course you do have a license for your own PBs, but the compiled files are missing. If you still have access to the old installation (other path, other disk, other device, or a backup of the old Logos installation), then you can import them all by using the scan command.

(Note for people planning a re-install of Logos, or a second, new installation: uploading the PBs will avoid such issues)

Not necessarily. Right now, your PB resource in that layout is not available - after you build it anew, it will be available again with the old resource ID (my understanding of "manually reinstall" would be that you use the existing PB project entry in the PB tool and just hit "build", maybe updating the source file location.)

No. What would you want to remove, and why?

Wow... tremendous. I have an SSD (C: computer system) and a HDD (D: data files)... I had to put in a new SSD C:/ Drive and thus, had to reinstall Logos.

Taking your advice NB, since the books were in the same directories as when originally built, all I had to do was: Personal Books Tool > Select Each Book one at a time > Build Book

Surprisingly, Logos had stored the original Personal Books' directory paths on Logos Cloud. So within less than 10 seconds I was able to rebuild about 20 books and everything is working perfectly!

Thanks for this answer, Mick.

But when I click on the personal book that I need to upload to the computer on which the book was not created, the "Upload" button is unavailable (grey).  I've tried to paste in an image here, but it doesn't look like it's come through.

Anybody have an idea why this might be?

Thanks,

Andrew

Click build and rebuild the PB, afterwards the "Upload" button should be clickable (there's only one exception: the compiled file is larger than 20MB because of lots of pictures and/or thousands of pages of text content - this is rare, one famous example is a PB built from all religion-related pages from English wikipedia which compiules as a PB but is over 100MB large)
