scott sullivan:
Just upgraded to 7.  In my documents menu, I don't have anything called "Sermon Editor."  Am I looking in the wrong place?

You should have something there called "Sermon". Do you?

Until today I've been sending my docx format sermons to my kindle.

I know that send to kindle for the library is gone.  But wow would it be nice if I could click a button from the sermon editor and send the finished sermon to my kindle.

Any chance?

Wow, this feature has a TON of potential, I have just played around with it by adding an older sermon into it to see how it would work, I like it but I don't think it's ready to depend on.....I'm sure it will be.

A few things that either are missing or I don't see the option:

1. A "send to sermon <name>" much like Proclaim would be great.

2. I see that to start a sermon I need to pick a heading (H1, H2) I would like to write before the first heading. My intro.....

3. I see we can do numbered lists but I like to use A, B, C....underneath my headings which are numbered. I think this is just basic formatting that will come later.

4. I saw you will address this, but an option to send to a mobile device. I tried exporting to a pdf and it came our looking crazy (see below)

5. An option not to make slides. Or a toggle to turn them of....

I think this feature alone is worth L7, great job. Thank you!

You can turn off the Heading on the first line and it will revert to the text format

The alpha-numeric lists were added during the beta period. Initially it was simply numbers. You can use the tab key or the indent key on the toolbar to change the alpha-numeric level. Unfortunately there is only one list style available right now.

You cannot turn the slide option on or off right now, but you can delete slides you do not want

I see in the top right corner a word count and minutes. I'm guessing this is a forecast of how long it will take to preach the content (?) I think so....very helpful if so!

- If so, at what rate is this calculated?

- It would be great to edit this rate to fit our preaching style

I just copied a sermon that took me 48 minutes to preach and it listed it just over 20 minutes. Being able to edit the wpm would be great esp as many transition to the tool and don't have the page breaks to know approx how long this will take.

I.e: I know when I get to page 7-8 I am at my outer limits for time. If I use this tool I won't have page breaks to count pages. I will need that WPM tool to be customized.

I am really excited about this tool! Having everything in the Faithlife ecosystem is awesome!

We used a modified WPM calculation assuming more pauses than most public speaking. I can't remember the exact number. Eli knows. It assumes a full manuscript and not just an outline.

We plan to add this in a future update.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you like it!

120 words per minute, based on the oft-cited-but-never-really-proven figure of ~150 WPM for midwestern spoken English. (This I remembered to put in the help.) Some places in the southern US average as low as 40 WPM, and some places in the northeastern US  average as high as 300. (Y'all know who youse are.)

Words are calculated by counting spaces In all the content. We'll almost certainly have to let you adjust the 120 WPM setting, since one size definitely does not fit all.

Jacob Cerone:

  • Auto-inclusion of slides where you probably want them. When you make a new heading, a slide with that heading text is automatically inserted.
  • Manual inclusion of more slides if you want them. You can also select text from the manuscript and press the “Insert slide from selection” and a new slide will be created
  • “Smart art” templates. Double-click on any slide to open that slide in the Media tool (was Visual Copy) and edit your slide’s content or style. Hit the “Update sermon” button in the Media tool to post that change back to your sermon document.

Will the ability to include custom art be added in the future?

For example I have a graphic of four wine glasses I want to use as I preach on Luke's version of the Lord's supper.  Luke mentions two cups and I would like a graphic as I explain a bit about it.  Sure I can add that manually to my powerpoint presentation, but It would be nice if I could add it to my Logos sermon file.

We're working on a feature for the Media tool that will allow you to upload your own background images. When that happens, you might be able to add a blank slide with your image into your sermon.

Great! This tool alone is worth my Logos Now subscription, I look forward to when it has full formatting and when I can send the sermon to my iPad.

Great work Devs! Another thought along these same lines: We have the ability to import slides from GraceWay Media in Proclaim. We use that feature weekly. What are the chances of having the same functionality in the Sermon editor?

When I finish typing a Scripture reference it becomes hyperlink color (but doesn't seem to have the ability to hover over it and get the text - like elsewhere in Logos) and then I tell it to make a slide (which it does nicely) but then I'm left with both a repetition of (1) the reference, and (2) the reference with the full verse from the slide conversion. So then I go back and delete the initial verse reference because I don't need it in there twice. Am I missing something?

Kevin,

Type the verse or passage reference. Hit return (do not add a space after the reference). The verse or passage auto-fills then places cursor on the next line.
